Peggy June Kessler McClung lived a truly wonderful life for 91 years. Peggy was born on September 26, 1919, and went to be with her Lord, on December 9, 2010. She died of natural causes in Fort Wayne, IN. Peggy was daughter of William and Ruth Collinwood Kessler in Lafayette but lived most of her life in Kokomo. Peggy received her education, elementary through high school, in the Kokomo School System. Peggy attended Ball State College receiving her B.S. Degree in Education enabling her to teach English and Business subjects either at the Junior High or High School level. Peggy then returned to the Kokomo School System where she served 26 years at Kokomo High School. During her teaching career at Kokomo High School, she developed the Exploratory Teaching Program which encouraged young people potentially interested in becoming a classroom instructor. Peggy was a former member of First Presbyterian Church of Kokomo and in later years, transferred her membership to New Life Church of Kokomo. She was a faithful servant in both churches. Peggy was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Sorority for 50 years. Peggy’s interest included gardening, sewing, crafts and culinary arts. Although Peggy had many interests, her love for her family was reflected throughout her life. Peggy, affectionately known as “Nan,� was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She married Fred W. McClung in 1942 and they lived together for 59 years until Fred preceded her in death in June of 2002. Peggy was also preceded in death by one son, Jerome McClung, in March of 2002, and by her sister, Betty Jane (Kessler) Verrette in 2005. Surviving Peggy are her daughter, Melinda Ruppert of Fort Wayne and son, Tom McClung (and wife Lynn) of Nappanee. Peggy also has 8 grandchildren, Jay McClung, Carlie McClung, Todd Ruppert, Mark Ruppert (and wife Sarah), Anthony McClung, Christopher McClung, Melissa McClung, and Grant McClung. Peggy also has 5 great-grandchildren, Zachary McClung, Madison McClung, Emma McClung, Matthew Ruppert, and Hannah Ruppert. Friends may call at Ellers Mortuary at 3400 S. Webster Street on Monday, from 3:00-5:00 or 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A service celebrating Peggy’s life will be held at the New Life Church, 1803 E. Vaile Ave, Kokomo on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Visitors may call at 10:30 a.m. before the service. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.
