Peggy was born on March 2, 1949, to Eugene and Marcelyne (Burge) Coutts at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, NE. Eugene and Marcelyne raised Peggy and her sisters: Marcia, Jacalyn, and Melissa in Hastings. She attended Hastings High School and graduated in 1967. Peggy and her sister, Marcia, moved in together for a time. Peggy and her husband, Terry, met when they both worked at the same warehouse in Hastings in 1970. They married on October 3, 1971, in Smith Center, KS. Peggy and Terry went on to have 4 children: James, Marcia, Trevor and Tracy. When James was young and Peggy was pregnant with Marcia, she spent a lot of time with her grandmother, Margaret Burge, learning how to can vegetables and fruits in Blue Hill, NE. Peggy and her family moved often due to Terry's military career. They spent time in Virginia and South Carolina, where she enjoyed crabbing by herself and taking chances with the sand sharks, and Massachusetts before moving back to Nebraska in late spring of 1988. She enjoyed macrame, as evidenced by the many plant hangers she made. In 1988, she started a daycare in Lincoln where, at times, there would be 10-13 children in her care, ranging from infant age to 12 years old. When the family decided to move to Alma, NE, the parents of the daycare children were very sad to see her go, as was Peggy. She truly enjoyed caring for their children. From Alma, they moved to Sutton, NE, in the spring of 1993, where Peggy and Terry decided to stay for good. She was a stay-at-home mom for quite some time and then decided to go to school to be a CNA in 1997. She worked at the Sutton Nursing Home as a CNA for many years until she retired in October of 2009. In between caring for her husband, children, and nursing home residents, she cared for her garden. She loved sitting on the back porch and watching it grow and watering it. Her vegetable gardens were truly something to see. Throughout her life, she held her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren close to her heart. She loved spending time with all her grandchildren, Autumn, Danielle, Tyler, Jena and Michael. Her granddaughters, Danielle (Silva) Dunker, Tyler (Post) Nuss, and Jena Prieto-Post spent many wonderful summers with her. Her love for Jesus, our savior, never wavered. Throughout her decline with dementia, she always knew Jesus.
Peggy was preceded in death by her grandparents, Margaret and Lester Burge and Leonard and Mable Coutts; her mother and father, Eugene and Marcelyne Coutts; and several aunts and uncles.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Terry Post; her children, James Post; Marcia Post; Trevor Post; and Tracy Post; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her sisters, Marcia (Coutts) Henry; Jacalyn (Coutts) Smith; and Melissa (Coutts) Ekstein; many nieces and nephews; her aunt, Shirley (Burge, Allen) Tharp; and many cousins.
