Peggy Probst Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Community Funeral Home of Beulaville on Dec. 15, 2025.
Peggy W. Probst, a devoted wife, mother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on the early morning of Friday, December 12, 2025, at Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia, following a brief illness at the age of 83.

Born on November 14, 1942, in Smith Township, Duplin County, North Carolina, Peggy was the fourth of six children born to the late Nannie and George W. Williams. She graduated from B.F. Grady School in 1961, where she was a member of the National Beta Club, the senior class reporter, yearbook editor, class marshal, and student school bus driver. She was voted most intellectual in her class.
Following graduation, Peggy relocated to Jacksonville, North Carolina, and began her professional life as a telephone operator for Carolina Telephone.

On January 20, 1968, she married Francis (Frank) Probst, an officer in the U.S. Army. For the next eighteen years, she embraced the dynamic life of an Army wife and helped support his military career by serving on various committees within local Officer Wives' Clubs.
In 1977, when Frank received an assignment to the Pentagon, the couple established their permanent home in Burke, Virginia. Aside from a three-year overseas tour in Worms, Germany, Peggy resided in Burke for the remainder of her life.
While primarily dedicated to her roles as wife and mother, she also pursued academic interests, taking classes at Northern Virginia Community College and the University of Maryland. She worked professionally in accounting for a real estate firm and also cleaned homes on a part-time basis.

Peggy was known for her exceptional warmth and generous spirit. She made a point of sending cards to so many on birthdays and holidays. She played the role of "second mom" to many younger family members and to her children's friends, whom she loved dearly. She valued the lasting relationships she developed with her neighbors and friends throughout her years in Virginia.
She loved being at the beach and listening to the sound of the waves. Above all, she valued family and was never hesitant to place her family's needs above her own. Her husband and her boys were her pride and joy. She was never more happy than when she was spending time with her family.

In her later years, she maintained an active retirement, famously remaining a loyal member of a local McDonald's breakfast club for over 35 years and a favorite patron of several local restaurants, where she looked forward to seeing her favorite members of the wait staff.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother George Williams, and her sister Verona Bass. Peggy is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Francis (Frank) Probst; their two sons, Dr. Frank Probst III of Houston, Texas, and George Probst of Blacksburg, Virginia. She is also survived by her brothers Travis and Murphy Williams, and her sister Glenda Kennedy, as well as her many cherished nieces and nephews

.
Peggy was deeply loved by many and will be profoundly missed.
