Mrs. Peggy Stevens Thomas, 89, the widow of Van Hobert Thomas, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Peggy was born in Franklin County, Indiana, on May 11, 1936, the daughter of the late George & Mary Nickel Stevens. She, along with her husband Van, owned and operated the Country Kettle Restaurant for over 20 years, where they were known for serving home cooked meals to their many dedicated customers. Peggy was a dedicated wife and mother and looked forward to the moments spent with her family. Whether it was helping on the farm in tobacco setting time, or watching grandchildren, she was always able to be found lending a helping hand. She was a member of the Linden Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her children, Roger V. Thomas, Glen (Rayna) Thomas, Donald (Pamela) Thomas, Deborah (Randall) Winkler, Douglas (Shawna) Thomas, Bruce (Evelyn) Thomas, Lisa (Mike) Russell, and Gary (Denise) Thomas; one step-son, Gary Van (Diane) Thomas; 22 grandchildren, 48, great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Dora Thomas, and a host of other extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, and husband, Peggy was preceded in death by two sons, Darren Thomas & Randy Thomas.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, January 16, 2026, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond, with Bro. Sherl Thomas & Bro. Rickey Horn officiating. Burial will follow in the Red Hill Cemetery at Panola.
Visitation will be after 11AM Friday, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Roger Thomas Jr., Frankie Thomas, Randall Winkler Jr., Gregory Winkler, Joshua Thomas, and Tyler Thomas.
Honorary Pallbearers will be her other grandchildren, Matthew, Justin, Christopher, Derek, Jason, Stephanie, Jessica, Amanda, Brittany, Megan, Malena, Leah, Kimberly, Kylie, Sandy & Jamie Sue.
