Peggy Elaine Thomas

Peggy Strother Thomas, of Harrisonburg, departed this life on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at her home. Peggy was born on June 15, 1932, in Harrisonburg, Virginia to the late Addie and Charles Newton Strother, Sr.

Peggy spent time teaching at Newton School and Lucy F. Simms High School in Harrisonburg. Her career path eventually led to Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Pathology, in which she retired after 31 years of service. Peggy's beliefs and faith impacted many through ministries at New Life Gospel church of Shenandoah and then on to New Life Ministries in Bridgewater.

Peggy Thomas was married to the late Bishop Charles Thomas, Sr. and together they had three children, son, Charles Thomas, Jr., and daughter, Christine Tolson, both preceded her in death. Mrs. Thomas is survived by her son, James Thomas and wife, Cynthia; five grandchildren, Adrienne, Megan, Shonda, Rachel, and Charles III "Chaz"; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Henry Eggleston, spiritual son, for loving "momma" and our family, to William Madden for being a loving caretaker of "Mrs. Thomas" and to Latoya King, spiritual daughter, for being a caring presence.

Psalm 27:4 One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Kyger Funeral Home, 3173 Spotswood Trail, Harrisonburg, VA 22801. All are welcome.
