Peggy Lou Wright, of Odessa, Texas, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the age of 71 years. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 3:30 p.m. at Mission Dorado Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas with Bro. Terry Wright and Pastor Jeremiah Foley officiating. Graveside service and internment will be at Wallace Creek Cemetery on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in San Saba, Texas.
Peggy was born in San Saba on October 6th, 1954 to Charlie and Jerry Startz. After graduating third in her class from San Saba High School, she attended Howard Payne University where she earned a degree in teaching.
It was at college that Peggy met Terry Wright and the two married on Saturday December 18, 1976. For 49 faithful years she walked alongside her husband, making joys and sorrows better because they were together
Peggy is survived by her husband, Terry Wright of Odessa, daughter Erin Wright of Odessa, and son, Rusty Wright and his wife Tiffanie of Odessa and three grandchildren Lillian, Joseph, and Evelyn.
Peggy embraced the role of wife and mother with God-ordained purpose. She spent many nights in her blue chair praying for wisdom, strength and protection for her family, her church family, and others. She enjoyed being a grandmother and nothing said love quite like a home-cooked meal or a book read aloud.
Throughout her life, Peggy willing served the churches she attended. She played the piano, cooked meals, and washed dishes. Perhaps her favorite ministry was teaching children in Sunday School class, a position she held for 40 years.
One of Peggy's passions was writing. She filled many spiral notebooks with stories and prayers. She regularly sent cards and letters to people and In later years, she enjoyed designing her own cards with photos on the computer. If you happened to have received one of these creations, you know the unique combination of wit and wisdom that she possessed.
In 2023, Peggy was diagnosed with leukemia. This chapter came unexpectedly but she tackled the challenge as she had every other one- with intellect and prayer. She read and researched and became fascinated by the inner workings of the body. Even in great pain, she did not complain, but trusted God until He called her Home.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all who have supported and encouraged them. May we continue to follow Peggy's example as we comfort and pray for each other.
“The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26
