Penny Jane Arnold, 52, of Spencer, WV went home to be with the Lord on
August 18, 2025, after a courageous 3-year battle with cancer.
Penny was born March 5, 1973, to the late Earl and Helen Sommerville.
Penny is survived by her best friend and husband of 34 years Bradley
"Scott" Arnold. Her brothers, Ronnie Sommerville, Jeff (Peggy)
Sommerville, Randy (Lucy) Sommerville. Penny is survived by her sister-in-
law Tammy (Jimmy) Riggs, special nieces Brandy Sue Sommerville and
Cassandra (Shawn, Remington, and Iverlee) Vaughan, and dear to her
heart, Emma Arnold. She also is survived by many dear family members
including special aunts, nieces, and nephews. Penny was preceded in
death by her late brother Rusty Sommerville and niece Kelley Franck.
In addition to her family, left behind to cherish her memory is her dear
friend and sister of the heart Sherry (Matthew) Husted and her Gilboa
Baptist Church Family.
She worked and dedicated over 33 years of her life to the families of Roane
County by obtaining her early childhood degree and working as an
educator of preschool children at Building Blocks in Spencer. She also
had PATCH Youtube lessons for children called "Penny's Reading Nook".
In these last three years she has helped plan lessons for Building Blocks
as well as assisting in children's programing at the Roane County
Libraries.
Penny enjoyed traveling around the state with Scott and assisting him with
his photography. She enjoyed helping her community, cooking, thrifting,
and spending time with family and friends. She will be sadly missed by her
family, friends, and community.
The family would like to express their sincere and heartfelt gratitude to all
of the Roane General Hospital Staff for all their compassion, wonderful
care, and support during her extended illness. We especially thank
Robenia Williams, Penny's dear friend, for her care.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Spencer Armory on August 24 th at
2:00pm.
In Lieu of Flowers the family asks for donations be made to Roane County
Library for a future area called Penny's Reading Nook.
