Penny Leverenz Obituary

Penny L. Leverenz, of Waterford, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025, at 80 years of age. Penny was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Louis Leverenz, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and family. She was the devoted mother of Martin (Jessica) Leverenz and Matthew Leverenz, and the proud and doting grandmother of Krista, Josh, and Elias-three grandchildren who brought immeasurable joy and purpose to her life. She is also survived by her loving siblings, C.J. Shell and Elizabeth (Art) Solomon, and was preceded in death by her brother Greg (Nancy) Shell. Penny leaves behind many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, and the mother of two of her grandchildren, Kelly Leverenz.

Penny was a 1963 graduate of Lake Orion High School and she would pursue a career in nursing as an LPN for Pontiac General Hospital and Crittenton Hospital for 33 years. To date, Penny's greatest happiness came from being a grandmother. She poured her heart into every moment spent with her grandchildren-babysitting when they were young, cheering from the stands at sporting events, planning little outings, and sharing simple everyday joys. Penny had a special way of making each child feel loved, valued, and supported, and those who knew her often remarked on how her eyes lit up when she talked about her family. Her love was constant, and her presence was a steady, comforting anchor in their lives.

Beyond her family, Penny embraced life with a spirit of curiosity, humor, and connection. She was deeply involved in the Waterford senior community, where she found purpose, friendship, and fun through the Golden Age Club, Senior Olympics, Wii bowling, shuffleboard leagues, and group travel. Whether she was competing, laughing with friends, or exploring a new destination, Penny approached everything with enthusiasm and a generous heart. She especially loved traveling throughout the state of Michigan and enjoyed cruises that offered her the chance to see new places and meet new people.

A loyal fan through and through, Penny cherished quiet moments listening to the Detroit Tigers on the radio-often paired with a cup of coffee, a cozy blanket, or a phone call from someone she loved. She enjoyed simple pleasures, everyday routines, and time spent with her circle of "senior friends," who became an important extension of her family. Her years at Lockwood of Waterford Senior Living were filled with laughter, companionship, and countless social gatherings where Penny was known for her warm personality, easy conversation, and genuine kindness.

Those who knew Penny will remember her as spirited, loving, and endlessly giving. She had a way of making people feel welcome and important, whether through a thoughtful gesture, a shared story, or just her steady presence. Her warmth, humor, and deep devotion to the people in her life created memories that will be cherished forever.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 10 AM at COATS FUNERAL HOME – WATERFORD. Family will receive friends on Friday from 4 to 8 PM.
