Penny Ann Sanchez (Thomas) "Grammy", 63, died peacefully, at home, in her husband's arms, on Sunday evening, January 7, 2024.
Penny was born on October 1, 1960, in Port Arthur, Texas to Paul Thomas and Joyce LaFleur. She married Ignacio "Dave" Sanchez of Corpus Christi, Texas on May 17, 1980. For them, it was love at first sight. They held each other's hands throughout life's journey for 43 loving years. On October 1, 2023, their oldest son, Michael, officiated the renewal of their wedding vows at their home in Mamou, Louisiana. They were surrounded by their children and grandchildren.
Penny was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to create and bestow affectionate, nonsensical nicknames on her children and grandchildren. Once a nickname was given, that's what she called you. Penny also enjoyed the simpler things in life, chatting and visiting with family and friends, playing cards, board games, and puzzles with her children and grandchildren, and caring for her dogs, Chi Chi, Molly, and Zeush. Her smile shined brightest when surrounded by her family.
Penny leaves behind her husband, Ignacio; her mother, Joyce; four children: Michael (Monkey) & Melisa Sanchez, Misty (Sista) & Ashlie Sanchez, Melody (Mae Mae) & Jason (Figureitout) Figueroa, Shannon (Tut Tut) & Ashley Sanchez; nine grandchildren: Devon Casey, Brandon J. Savoie (Duddy), Skylar Figueroa (La La), Wesley LeBlanc (Papareaux), Hayden Sanchez (Lu Lut), Kamie (Bre) & Kensie Whitehead, and Kallie & Kylie Hall; three great-grandchildren: Allison Casey, Kimberly Casey, and Kayden Savoie; three siblings: Jerry & Charlotte Phillips, Paula & Charles Brasseaux, and Linda LeMoine, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Thomas; stepfather, Hewitt Doucet; brothers, Christopher & Eugene Thomas; granddaughter, Cheyenne Marie; and beloved dog, Skinnypup.
At the family's request, a visitation will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Ardoin's Funeral Home of Mamou beginning at 9:00 AM. A Funeral Service will be held at 6:00 PM, then visitation will resume until 8:00 PM.
