Perchta Norman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home - Ironwood on Feb. 2, 2026.
Perchta (Pat) Norman, 88, of Ironwood, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the Westgate Nursing Home.

Pat was born on January 29th, 1937, in Hohenerxleben, Germany, to her loving parents Margareta 'Greta' (Thedens) Rieger and Johann 'Hans' Rieger.

Perchta was the oldest of four siblings, as was her mother (Margareta Reiger), and she was given her mother's name as her middle name. That middle name, Margareta, has been a tradition passed down to the first-born daughter for four generations now. Her daughter, Annette Margret; granddaughter, Bethanna Margareta; and great-granddaughter, Iliana Margareta, all carry her honor.

While still in Germany, Perchta met her dear husband, Lowell Norman, an American soldier. Perchta moved to America and on June 18th, 1960, married Lowell Norman in Des Plaines, Illinois, at Christ Church-United Church of Christ. Perchta and Lowell enjoyed gardening and making many delicious meals for their family and community. They also enjoyed traveling to many vacation spots across the upper Midwest.

Perchta showed her love and selflessness by multiple acts of service, and providing personal care to those in need, specifically her husband in his later years, as well as her mother-in-law. Perchta was very involved in her children's lives. She served as a Boy Scouts Den Mother for her sons and a Girl Scouts assistant, Brownie Leader, and Cookie Chairperson for her daughter. She also gave generously of her time as a room mother each year her children attended grade school.

Perchta was an affectionate and loving grandmother to her ten grandchildren, who lovingly remember her as 'Omi.' She was a talented baker, a wonderful housekeeper, an excellent knitter, and was gifted at gardening. Omi also enjoyed sending letters and perfecting her penmanship. She was a very generous person who gave help to anyone who asked. She donated to many churches; she knitted for her grandchildren, and she made many baked goods for others to show her love and care. Perchta touched the lives of everyone she met, and she will be greatly missed.

Perchta leaves behind three younger siblings: her brothers Rüdiger Reiger and Volker Reiger, and her sister Telshe (Reiger)Schütt, who all reside in Germany. While countries away, Perchta remained close to her siblings and family. Perchta was the mother of three children: Mark L. Norman, Annette M. Petersen, and Craig J. Norman, who will miss her greatly. She is fondly remembered by her ten grandchildren, Daniel and wife Angela Petersen, Nathanael (Nate) Petersen, Bethanna and husband Zach Good, Rebekah and husband Nathan Mann, Amanda and husband Jeremy Strom, Jeremiah Petersen, Helga Petersen, Faith Petersen, Charity and husband David Rhine, and Elijah Petersen. As well as her great-grandchildren, Rick Petersen, Johnathan Petersen, Iliana Duin, Emma Good, Olivia Good, Athena Petersen, Sabrina Mann, Tucker Mann, Adalynn Moran, Everly Strom, and Heiken Strom.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Margareta and Johann Reiger, her husband Lowell W. Norman, her great-granddaughter Maya A. Mann, her brother-in-law Reinhold Schütt, her sister-in-law Christa Reiger, and her niece Ines M. Reiger.

A funeral service for Pat was held at Cornerstone Christian Church in Ramsay.
