Perry Winston Lane, Sr.

Perry Winston Lane, Sr., 96, of Grand Junction, departed this life early Friday morning, July 26, 2024, at Methodist Hospital in Germantown.

A native of Grand Junction, he was the youngest of 15 children born to the late John Edward Lane and Mary Holder Lane.  After graduating from Grand Junction High School, he completed his studies with two years at the University of Tennessee at Martin and two years at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.  It was there he received his bachelor's degree in agriculture as a Horticulture major in 1950.  On November 22, 1952, he was united in marriage to Iva Watkins.  Their union lasted for 67 years until Mrs. Lane's passing on March 26, 2020.  The Lane's moved to back to Grand Junction, from Memphis, in 1962.

Mr. Lane worked in advertising for the American Angus Journal for several years, a job he thoroughly enjoyed.  From there, he became vice-president of operations for Hackamore Ranch in Lamar, MS where he worked for six years.  In Grand Junction, Mr. Lane operated a Western Auto store for 5 years, right next door to his wife's clothing store, Iva's. He also served as Mayor of Grand Junction from 1976 to 1986. Lastly, he, and his son, Pete, operated their own cattle farm where he eventually retired.

Active in both community and civic affairs, he served multiple terms as mayor of Grand Junction and was chairman of the Hardeman County grand jury for many years.  He was a member of the Bolivar Masonic Lodge and a member of the Scottish Rite.  As a long-time member of the Grand Junction First United Methodist Church, he faithfully served on the church's board.

In his leisure time, Mr. Lane loved to play golf with his friends at the Hardeman County Golf and Country Club.  He also was an avid UT Vols fan.  He enjoyed all kinds of sports, working with his cows, operating various types of farm equipment and, most of all, spending time with his beloved family.

He is survived by his daughter, Tami Lane of Collierville; his sons, Perry W. "Pete" Lane, Jr. and wife, Carolyn, of Grand Junction and Gary S. Lane and wife, Julie, also of Grand Junction; four grandchildren, Alexandra Khosla and husband, Sameer, of Miami, FL, Cory E. Lane and wife, Haley, of Rhome, TX, Lauren J. Keeton of Los Angeles, CA and Winston Keeton of Kansas City, MO; and four great-grandchildren, Paityn Jewell Lane, Kaia Lane Khosla, Lekh Khosla and Carson R. Lane.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 14 sisters and brothers.
