Pete Schneider

Joachim P. "Peter" Schneider, 88, a longtime Monmouth Beach and Oceanport resident passed away at home on March 3, 2026, surrounded by his family. Peter was born in Offenburg, Germany to the late Karl and Margarethe Schneider.

Peter trained in Europe as a chef. He worked in Germany, France, Switzerland, the Holland America Cruise Line, the Rumson Hotel, Little Kraut Restaurant in Red Bank, and Sickles in Little Silver. In his second career, Peter worked at Brookdale Community College as a computer operator and manager.

Always welcoming and willing to help family and friends, Peter was also quick to share a joke or advice. He loved nothing more than being with family and sharing stories with friends.

Peter was a communicant of the Church of the Precious Blood in Monmouth Beach.

In addition to his parents, Pete was predeceased by his brothers, Hans and Axel and his sister-in-law, Kathy Hilmer.

A devoted family man, he is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Laureen (Hilmer) Schneider, children; Matthew and Dara of Oceanport, Kelly Marie Schneider of Oceanport, and Christopher and Alyssa of Toms River, brothers-in-law; Ray Hilmer of Port Monmouth and Henry Hilmer and wife Kathleen of Amelia Island, FL, as well as his adored grandchildren, Jacqueline and John Schneider.

Family and friends may visit on Thurs., March 12th from 4-7pm at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Fri., March 13th at 10am, at Church of the Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach followed by burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Middletown.
