Liewer Funeral Home - ImperialDeloyce Ervin “Pete” Spady, age 80 of Imperial, passed away on August 7, 2025, at Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial, NE. Pete was born December 4,1944 in Imperial to Clarence (Bruz) and Nelda (Kelly) Spady and was the youngest of their four children: Darwin, Doris, and Dennis.
He attended District 22 Elementary School in rural Chase County, and later graduated from Chase County High School in 1963.After high school, Pete served in the Nebraska Army National Guard from 1965-1971. He married Carol Goddard on August 14,1966, and they bought a small farm south of Imperial where they raised their three sons: Eric, Jason, and Trent. On June 5, 1993, Pete married Rebecca (Graham) Krauter, gaining two more sons and a daughter: Ryan, Heath, and Tammy. Pete also was blessed with sixteen grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
He worked for Spady Construction as a carpenter from 1963 until his retirement in 2014.Throughout his time working with Spady Construction, there were four generations of Spady’s working for the family business. The crew built many homes in Imperial and the surrounding area, and they also did remodeling, roofing, or just about anything else that needed to be built or repaired. If it needed to be built, a Spady man would figure out a way to build it.
Pete enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids. He spent his free time watching them compete in various sports and activities. He also enjoyed making woodworking projects and spending time on the water even though he couldn't swim. He served as a 4-H leader for small caliber firearms, BB guns, and hunter's safety.
Pete was a true outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, but he especially enjoyed prairie dog, rattlesnake, deer, and antelope hunting; he also drew one of the first elk permits ever issued in Nebraska and was successful taking a cow elk near Chadron, NE. Pete loved taking morning and evening drives along the country roads looking at deer and other wildlife. He also loved spending time riding around his golf cart looking for rabbits and birds with a diet coke alongside his dog, Abe. He passed his love of the great outdoors on to all of his children and grandchildren.
Pete resided at the Wauneta Care and Therapy Center for the past 5 years following a decline in his health. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, brothers Darwin(Elva Ann); Dennis (Celia), and sister Doris Baldwin (Ray).
Survivors include his wife Becky Spady; children, Eric (Judy) Spady, Jason (Candy) Spady, Trent(Jodi) Spady, Ryan (Michelle) Krauter, Tammy (Jimmy) Collins, and Heath (Darcie) Krauter; grandchildren, Eli Spady, Ethan Spady, Reid Spady, Jena Spady, Cydney Spady, Miranda Spady, Damon Spady, Rhea (Justin) Thomas, Casey Krauter (Nate Peterson), Rusty Burns, Rylan Burns, Matt Collins, Cody Collins, Lindsay Newman (Koltar Rahn), Natalie Newman (Tom Herbig), Colby Krauter (Gracee Downing); great granddaughter Remington Jo Rahn; siblings-in-law, Nancy (Mike) Bopp, Susan Graham, Ron (LeaAnn) Graham, Mike Graham; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
