Peter Ira Berman

Peter Ira Berman, 85, husband of Roberta Schneider Berman of Norwalk, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, on May 26, 1938, he was the son of the late Louis and Marion Schutzman Berman.
In addition to his wife of 38 years, Peter is survived by his four children: Samuel Berman (Melanie Monroe), Avram Berman, Allison Schwartz (Lurie Schwartz), and Keith Berman (DebbieBerman). He leaves behind seven grandchildren; Kimberly, Jaquelyn, Brian, Ari, Ava, Hannah, and Samantha. He is remembered by siblings Wendy Grossman and Steve Berman.Additionally, he was predeceased by his beloved dog Misty andleaves behind rescue pup Scout who provided great comfort and companionship in his later years.
Peter was a proud alumnus of Cornell University B.A. (Class of 1960) and Johns Hopkins University PhD (class of 1967) where he passionately studied economics. He held numerous positions over the years at large financial institutions but by far his greatest joys and accomplishments were at his last position as professor at the University of New Haven, where he taught finance for over 20 years. His lasting impact on his students is visible in their accomplishments and steady friendship to this day.
In addition to his love for teaching, he was an avid sailor and writer, having logged over 100,000 miles under sail and publishing numerous books about finance and sailing. He shared his love of the ocean with his family and friends. His heart and soul will always be felt on the ocean and in ports as varied as foggy Northeast Harbor, ME through sunny Fernandina Beach, FL and beyond. He was a man who could weather any storm and lead those under his commands. His memories will live on through the lives he has touched along the way.
Services will be held on Friday, July 21, at 11:00 AM at Congregation Beth El, 109 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT. Burial will follow at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, 7800 Myrtle Avenue, Glendale, NY 11385.
