Peter Boyle Obituary

Boyle Jr., Peter John

Peter John Boyle Jr., affectionately known as Petey, passed away on Sunday, September 15th, 2024, at the age of 65. A beloved father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, Pete was born on January 16, 1959, to the late Peter Boyle Sr. and Margaret Boyle of Dayton, Ohio.

Pete was a 1978 graduate of Archbishop Alter High School, where he excelled in basketball. As one of the tri-captains, alongside his teammates Don Meineke and Dan Bockhorn, Pete helped lead Alter to a State Championship victory that year-a highlight of his athletic career. His love of basketball took him to Jacksonville University in Florida, where he continued to play at the collegiate level.

Basketball is deeply rooted in the Boyle family. Pete's father played for the University of Dayton Flyers, and Pete proudly continued that legacy, sharing a deep love for the sport with his son, Tony. The Boyle basketball tradition remains strong as Tony played basketball as an Alter Knight and continues to cheer on the Dayton Flyers, just as his father and grandfather did.

Beyond basketball, Pete built a longstanding career with Victory Wholesale Group, where he rose from a forklift operator to transportation manager. Pete later went on to manage The Dayton Gym Club. Outside of work, Pete spent many years on the golf course or cruising the Ohio River on his beloved boat, Teacher's Pet. Some of his happiest moments were spent on the water with family and friends.

Pete is survived by his son, Tony (Sydney) of Centerville, OH; his former wife, Cathy of Kettering, OH; his siblings, Karen of Centerville, OH, Kathy Geiger (Kenny O'Connell) of Cincinnati, OH, Dan (Beth) of Alpharetta, GA, and Kevin (Michelle) of Charlotte, NC; his nephews and niece, Luke, Sean, and Jill; as well as many beloved cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Margaret Boyle. His family finds comfort in knowing he is now at peace, reunited with his mom and dad.

Pete's final wishes were to donate his body to the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine Anatomical Gift Program for educational purposes. This contribution will help future medical professionals gain invaluable experience. If desired, memorial donations may be made in Pete's honor to the Archbishop Alter High School Men's Basketball Program (www.alterhs.org/make-a-gift). The Boyle family invites you to join us as we celebrate the life of Pete Boyle through storytelling and shared memories. Our family deeply appreciates your prayers and support during this time.

Oh, your Dad! I don't know if you and I ever met Tony, I can't recall. What I do remember of your dad is that 99% of his existence was absolute pride in you. I was a bartender at the Dayton Gym Club years and years ago. It was a constant Tone this, and a Tone that. He loved you so much. I remember him telling me that he was a premie as a baby....well that little fledgling grew up to be a loving father and an incredibly great guy. I am deeply sorry for your loss, but also grateful that you had a father that was non stop proud of you. He is with you always. May love and light guide you.

One of my deepest memories of my dad is him at all my games growing up. In a packed stadium or arena I could hear the deafening sound of his whistle followed by, "Tone, 288." For those who don't know, this was an old play they would run as kids in football. This was his way of telling me, "Time to pick it up...This is it.. let´s go. Give it all you´ve got." That phase has stuck with me to this day. As we learned this Sunday, life is short. So, I tell all of you, *whistle* 288.

I´ll miss our phone calls.. his check-ins on work, Syd, and the dogs, always ending with a story that left us in tears from laughing. He was always a great story teller. So, if there are any stories, memories or thoughts you have of my dad I would love to hear them. Feel free to leave a comment.
