After courageously battling sarcoma cancer for over 5 years, Peter Walter Brown, age 63 of Abilene, was peacefully called to his heavenly home on August 8, 2022 at his home in Abilene. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10am Saturday, September 10th at North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange St., Abilene.
Peter was born on November 16, 1958, in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Raymond and Margaret (Woods) Brown. He was the third of four children born to immigrant parents, and was the first born in the United States. Peter was raised in Fairfield, Connecticut where he excelled in baseball. He graduated from Roger Ludlow High School in Fairfield and left in 1979 to attend Abilene Christian University. While at ACU a mutual friend introduced him to Alba Lopez. They dated for three years while pursuing their degrees. Peter participated in intramural sports and social club activities while in college. Peter graduated from ACU in 1983 with a degree in Psychology. He and Alba married on December 15th, 1984.
After graduating from ACU, Peter worked for American Habitation Services before going to work for Hill Resources in 2001. He was the Program Director of Vocational Services for Culpepper Creek Farm. Peter's passion was working in the greenhouses where he and the clients grew many types of plants, as well as oak trees. He taught himself how to propagate numerous plants, even bougainvilleas! However, his favorite were the pansies which he took great pride in growing and then delivering them to local landscapers, universities and garden centers. After working at Culpepper Creek Farm for 21 years, the clients and staff became his beloved work family and he valued them with all of his heart. The local landscapers and other customers became his cherished friends.
Peter attended Beltway Park Church North Campus. His favorite bible chapter, 1 Corinthians 13 best summarizes how he tried to live his entire life, " If I don't have love for others, I am nothing". He opened his heart to everyone he met, and loved them the best that he could. He loved God, his family, his work family and his friends. He doted on his grandchildren and loved having adventures with them. He always prayed for his family, extended family, and friends.
Peter had an easy going personality with a sense of peace around him and a wonderful sense of humor. He loved God's Word and listening to Christian music and Christian ministers. He enjoyed working out and was always doing research on vitamins and supplements. He enjoyed baking pecan pies and giving them away to family and friends. He was known to wear a fanny pack and did his best to bring them back into style. He loved "The Twilight Zone" and enjoyed reading books about near death experiences and heaven. His favorite book was "Screwtape Letters" by C.S. Lewis. He believed in Bigfoot and loved the GOAT, Tom Brady, now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Peter loved Keith Green songs and he loved researching beautiful plants for his greenhouses. There will be no other like Peter Brown.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Margaret Brown; nephew, Christopher Brown; Niece, Diane Barnum Dutton; mother-in-law, Obdulia Lopez, and brother-in-law, Rick Lopez.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Alba Lopez Brown; children, Josh Brown, and wife Rebecca of Abilene, Jake Brown of Abilene, Ashton Meyers, and husband Wes of Dallas, Texas; siblings, Kathleen Barnum of Trumbull, Connecticut, David Brown and wife Catherine, Tony Brown and wife Mary; grandchildren, Zoe Brown, Aiden Brown, Piper Meyers; special friend, Michele Coppotelli Solis, Bonnie Owinyo, Ed and Laila Major, and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
