Peter Dallan Christensen
1938 ~ 2025
Peter Dallan Christensen passed away over the weekend. He was born in April of 1938 to Clarence and Lorena Christensen in Ephriam, Utah, and was the youngest of 8. His life was lived the best he could and in a self taught manner we are proud of.
Peters mother died in Salt Lake when he was 11 and shortly after he was herding sheep alone in the mountains of Idaho, with only a couple border collies, a horse, and over 1000 sheep to keep him company. At age 12 he moved onto a ranch in southwest Wyoming where his days started at 5am milking cows, then doing farm chores and milking again in the evening. After 2 years of working 7 days a week, he quit and walked away with $72.
For the following years he found himself bouncing between his fathers home and his beloved brother Glens home in Salt Lake Valley- always cherishing his sister-in-law Carol, whom he considered a mother. Seeing that he needed something stable in his life, Peter enlisted in the United States Navy on his 17th birthday in 1955, where he soon became a specialist and Naval Airman, assigned to the Patrol Squadron 9 as an aerial photographer based in Alaska and Japan. He was Honorably Discharged.
Peter started his aerial photography company and made many innovative improvements to the industry and gained awards from the USFS. A nose-to-nose, mid-air collision with an Air Force Jet over El Paso Texas at 20,000 feet, with a harrowing landing, and being away from his family and farm led Peter to sell his business. He became a General Contractor evolving to a specialist in restoration of fire damaged and historical homes.
Peter married Diane Glade in September of 1965 and shortly after, they moved to Alpine. They enjoyed traveling the world and were found visiting some new area multiple times each year. Camping, fishing and spending time with friends and family was part of their life. Many days were spent at the ranch and fishing in Alaska. He enjoyed a home cooked meal. He also was the best back-row attendee at church with his family. Peter loved his family, never having grown up in one- he said he did the best he could.
He enjoyed fishing to eat them, hunting, horses, cattle- especially Herefords, and livestock auctions. A good working dog was special to him. Peters array of knowledge covered far more than we can list. He was intelligent. He was kind to those he knew and had too many friends to list here. He tried hard to be loyal and had little time for those who did not return that gift. He believed in God. He was a good man, whose charity was ever present, yet rarely known by others. He had a good ride. Until we meet again.
Peter is survived by his wife Diane, daughter Dori Stone, son Dallan (Heather) Christensen, son Michael Christensen, along with 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Glen, Kenny, Lamar, Merrill and sisters Lorna, Phyllis, and Omera. We would like to thank the staff at UVRMC for their kind, dedicated and considerate care of this good man.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 11th in Alpine in the Red Brick Church at 165 North 100 East. Viewing from 9:30am to 10:30am with the funeral starting at 11am. Internment at the Alpine Cemetery. There will be no luncheon after (we cant cook enough side-pork and mutton to feed everyone :).
