Peter David Christensen, 83, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025, in
Ellicott City, Maryland. His passing occurred on his birthday, marking the close of a life rich in purpose, dedication, and love.
Born on December 14, 1942, in
Aitkin, Minnesota, Peter was the son of Arthur "Chris" and Dorothy (Armstead) Christensen. He grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Roosevelt High School before pursuing higher education with characteristic determination. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, followed by a Master's degree in Mathematics from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
While attending college, Peter worked tirelessly to support his family-driving a taxi and managing a Bridgeman's ice cream parlor. These early jobs reflected his strong work ethic and sense of responsibility that would define his professional life.
Peter began his career as a mathematics teacher and coach in Kenyon, Minnesota, where he taught math and coached track, cross country, and basketball. After completing his graduate studies, he transitioned into the field of computer programming and analysis. He held positions at American Delivery Systems and later served as Project Manager and Account Manager at National Bank of Detroit. His career continued to flourish when he joined Compuware Corporation, eventually transferring to their Maryland branch as Branch Manager.
In the final chapter of his professional life, Peter found great fulfillment working as Records Manager for the Anne Arundel County Police Department. Even after retiring from full-time work, he continued part-time in this role-a testament to how much he valued contributing to his community.
Peter was a man of many interests and talents. A self-described Renaissance man, he enjoyed playing golf and duplicate bridge, playing the clarinet, singing in the church choir, and gardening. His intellectual curiosity was matched only by his deep devotion to family and faith.
He found spiritual nourishment and lasting friendships at Bethany United Methodist Church in Ellicott City. There he sang joyfully with the church choir, participated actively in his Men's group, and deepened his faith through Bible study alongside cherished friends.
Peter is survived by Judith ("Judy"), his loving wife of 40 years; children: Jill Chao (David), Jennifer Christensen (John Adkins), Cheryl McMahon (Scott), John Pomeroy (Char), Ric Pomeroy (Sharon), and Brian Tucker; grandchildren: Mary Claire (Scott), Sarah (Matt), Sara (Cris), Abraham, Tahira (Royce), Zendaya, Matthew, Justin, Ryan, Jessica, David, Conor, Nolan, Caroline, and Carson; great-grandchildren: Thomas, Benjamin, Leo, Edith, Hazel, Olivia, Mason and Leni; brothers: Thomas (Gloria) and James (Darlene); sisters-in-law Susan and Barbara (James); along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur "Chris" and Dorothy Christensen; and brother Robert Christensen.
Peter's legacy is one of wisdom shared generously with others, (whether through teaching math to his students, mentoring colleagues in their careers, or instilling life lessons in his children) and one of a love expressed through steadfast devotion to family and faith.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. A Memorial Service will be held on January 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Bethany United Methodist Church 2875 Bethany Ln. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
