Peter Ferguson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Richardson Funeral Home - Leominster on Dec. 22, 2025.
Peter "Pete" Ferguson Sr., a cherished family man, respected business owner, and proud veteran, passed away unexpectedly on December 14, 2025, in Leominster, MA, at the age of 81. Born on September 5, 1944, in Melrose, MA, Peter's life was marked by his generosity, thoughtfulness, and his unending humor which brought joy to everyone who knew him.

Peter was a family man who adored spending time with his loved ones. He is survived by his children, David Ferguson, JoEllen Solano and her husband Kenny, Mackenzie Williams and her husband Charles, his loving partner, Teren Basel, and his brothers, John, Mark and his wife Lees, and sister, Marcia. Being a grandfather was one of Peter's greatest joys, and his grandsons, Tanner, Aiden, Liam, Henry, and Quinn will miss his kindness, generosity and endless love. He is predeceased by his son, Peter J. Ferguson Jr., whose memory he held close to his heart; his parents, William and Ruth (Tanner) Ferguson; his brothers, William Jr., Thomas, and Fredrick; his nephew, Charles; and many dear friends who passed before him.

Peter was a 1962 graduate of Boston College High School. He continued his education at Providence College, laying a strong foundation for his future endeavors. Upon graduation from Providence, Peter was drafted into Officer Candidate School, where he went on to serve for three years in Germany and then one year in Vietnam as a Captain in the Army. After his military service, Peter embarked on a successful career in the insurance industry, spanning over 50 years, which was highlighted by his role as a successful business owner of the PJ Ferguson Insurance Agency. Peter's entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by his commitment to supporting community, making him a well-respected figure in both his professional and personal circles.

Peter's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. An avid Boston sports fan, he spent countless hours cheering on his favorite teams and amassing an impressive collection of sports memorabilia. Peter had a deep love for gardening and poured his heart into creating a garden that was enjoyed by family, friends, and neighbors year after year. Peter "Papa" loved nothing more than having his family gathered around his pool in the summertime, where laughter and togetherness filled his heart. He was also an enthusiastic reader who found great joy and comfort in books, always eager to learn something new or lose himself in a good story. Puzzles of all kinds were another of Peter's enjoyments, a testament to his love for challenges and his sharp mind.

Peter's legacy is one of love, laughter, and service. Those who knew him will remember his generous nature, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. His thoughtful gestures, whether big or small, made a significant impact on many lives. Peter's sense of humor was a gift to his family and friends, providing light-hearted moments that will fondly be remembered and deeply missed.

As we say goodbye to Peter, we celebrate a life well-lived - a life filled with devotion to family, dedication to work, and a commitment to the community that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched, and his memory will be treasured forever.
