Peter Fitzpatrick Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home Inc. - Pearl River on Aug. 20, 2024.
Peter (Peadar) Fitzpatrick, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2024, at the age of 87.
Born in County Leitrim, Ireland, in July 1937, Peter immigrated to the United States in 1957, where he soon began a remarkable journey marked by love, dedication and accomplishments.
Peter served with distinction in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1962 before embarking on a long and fulfilling career as a police officer and detective with the New York Police Department, retiring after 20 years of service. He was a graduate of Fordham University.
In 1962, Peter married his beloved wife, Margaret Fitzpatrick. Their marriage, lasting 62 years, was a shining example of love and partnership. Together, they raised three daughters and their families: Kathleen Fitzpatrick and John Passalacqua, Rose-Marie and Timothy Reilly, and Colleen and Andrew Rowan. Pete took immense pride in his seven grandchildren: Kevin, Sean, and Sinead Reilly, Fiona and Patrick Passalacqua, Mairead and Seamus Rowan. He is also survived by his siblings Bridie Williams, Margaret Wiener, and Philip Fitzpatrick.
He maintained a deep connection to his roots in Ireland, a country that remained dear to his heart throughout his life.
A lifelong lover of music and the performing arts, he was a self-taught musician, mastering the harmonica, tin-whistle and bagpipes. Peter was actively involved in the Irish Arts Forum local theater group, bringing joy and passion to his performances. His enthusiasm extended to sports as well; he was a die-hard fan of the New York Giants, New York Yankees, Columbia Lions football, and recently, women's soccer.
Peter Fitzpatrick's legacy is one of love, warmth, and a zest for life. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) (Make a Memorial Donation - BreakthroughT1D) or Joe Raso Hospice Residence in New City, NY (unitedhospiceinc.org for Joe Raso).
