Obituary published on Legacy.com by Halley Olsen Murphy Funerals & Cremations - Lancaster on Oct. 1, 2025.
March 3, 1949 - March 28, 2025 Peter J. Galier, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, entered into eternal rest on March 28, 2025, at the age of 76.
Peter was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 3, 1949 to John and Sarah Galier. He shared a special bond with his parents, aunt & uncle, sister, and cousins. They were an immigrant Italian family that valued faith, integrity, and hard work. In 1964, the family moved to the Antelope Valley and took an active role in developing the community.
Peter graduated from Palmdale High in 1967. He was a proud member of their track and field team. He later attended Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. Peter was a member of the Alpha Lambda Omega fraternity and formed many lasting friendships. While attending Kenyon, Pete was honored with the Jess Falkenstine Award, recognizing him as an exceptional scholar-athlete who embodied leadership and integrity. Remarkably, Pete still holds a track record at Kenyon for the Intermediate 440 Hurdles. After graduating college in 1971, he pursued a year of graduate studies in Virginia before ultimately returning to the Antelope Valley.
In 1975, Peter married the love of his life, Carol. Together they have shared 49 beautiful years of marriage. He was the quiet strength of their family. Peter was a devoted father to Gina, Christa, and Jonathan. He led by example and always prioritized his family.
Peter's life was marked by his dedication to service, kindness, and an unwavering love for those around him. He worked at New York Life Insurance, Visco Financial Insurance, and later formed Galier Insurance Services. Peter's genuine warmth created lifelong friendships with many of his business associates and clients. He was actively involved in the community as a member of the YMCA, Palmdale Y's men, and president of Antelope Valley Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors from 2004-2005. His commitment to his community was recognized in 2008 when he was inducted into Palmdale High School's Hall of Fame for his outstanding community service. Most recently, he was a charter member of Lancaster Sunrise Rotary. Pete believed in helping others and giving back to our community.
Peter's love for life was reflected in the little things that brought him joy. He found peace on the golf course while enjoying time with Jonathan and close friends. He also had a deep love for classic cars and recently restored his prized 1969 Mustang Mach 1. Additionally, Peter enjoyed watching sunsets at the beach with Carol, sharing quiet moments of reflection and appreciation for the beauty of life. He was also a passionate sports fan, cheering on the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Above all, he loved supporting his kids and grandkids, cheering them on with enthusiasm in every sport or performance they participated in.
Peter cherished time with his family. Sunday dinners were a beloved tradition, where he savored delicious food, genuine laughter, and the warmth of loved ones gathered around the table. He found pure joy in watching his grandchildren play together in his backyard. Mikayla, Grant, Nolan, and Calvin always enjoyed showing off their dance moves for "Nanu" and creating trivia games or friendly competitions. Pete would always chuckle and willingly play along with their silly antics. His grandkids were an incredible source of pride and joy for him.
In 2018, Peter was blessed with the gift of a life-saving heart transplant. His family humbly acknowledges the donor as one of their greatest blessings, allowing them to have six additional years together. Even in life's most challenging moments, Pete remained strong and faithful. He was the perfect example of love. Without ever needing to say the words, Pete showed us how to be grateful for one another, to see the beauty in the everyday miracles, and to trust in God's greater plan.
Peter was deeply loved and will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind his wife Carol, daughters Gina Woolner (Mike) and Christa Galier, son Jonathan Galier (Chasidy), grandchildren Mikayla Woolner, Grant Woolner, Nolan Galier and Calvin Galier, sister Michele Machac (Emil), cousins Michelle Garvey (Tom), Vincetta Johnson (Norm), and Dr. Peter C. Galier (Donna), sister-in-law Janis Newland (Dave), and many more cousins and friends too numerous to mention.
Peter will always be lovingly remembered for his witty sense of humor, gentle spirit, quiet strength, and genuine care for others. His legacy will live on in all of our hearts.
"Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me." - Psalm 23:4
