Dr. Peter Keller – Age 79 – passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 5th, 2025, in Holly, MI.
Peter was born to Philipp and Maria Keller on November 19, 1945 in Senftenbach, Austria. At the age of 6, he, along with his brother and parents, immigrated to Detroit, MI.
Peter's adult years led him to serve in the United States Army and complete multiple degrees and certifications in Orthodontics, Pedodontics, and Dentistry. While he was known to most as Dr. Keller, DDS, MS, PC, he was also tremendously proud of his experience teaching for the University of Detroit-Mercy as a maxillofacial specialist. He was greatly admired by peers and students in his field and was loved by his patients.
Outside of his professional life, he found great joy in the outdoors, spending time hunting and fishing with his family and friends, traveling the world, and skiing in his younger years. While home, he was often found perfecting his home and yard, working in his workshop, training one of his many German Shepherds, or celebrating the victories of the University of Michigan Wolverines – all while smoking one of his many pipes.
Peter is survived by his brother Frank Keller (Theresa) and sister Maria Kison (Bill). He leaves behind his children, Paul Keller (Jenell) and Karl Keller (Hannah), grandchildren Nolan, Blair, and Catarina, and many other family members and friends.
There will be a memorial service and celebration of life on Friday, July 18th at: 2165 Whispering Hills Ct, Washington Twp, MI from 2pm – 7pm. A Memorial service will take place at 3pm; German fare served. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to Tunnels to Towers, an organization Pete was passionate about.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. His ashes will be laid to rest at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI at a date yet to be determined.

Pete was a very good friend and colleague. An exhibit we did at the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery led me to a Fellowship with Hugo Obwegeser,MD,DDS, Maxillofacial surgeon, in Zurich. I ultimately wound up at the University of Michigan. I am thankful for his friendship and knowledge.

So sad to hear of Pete's death. He was a great man and an inspiration in my career choice. He taught me as a dental student while treating me with orthognathic procedures as a student, and again, seven years later following a motor vehicle accident with more orthognathic care during orthodontic residency. He mentored me as I started my orthodontic practice and taught my niece who has now taken over for me; his contribution to my family life cannot be minimized. His honesty, dry humor, challenging demeanor and generous spirit will never be forgotten. Prayers and good wishes for Pete and his family, may he rest in peace.
