Peter Ladd Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Direct Cremation of Maine - Belfast on Oct. 23, 2023.
Obituary of Peter L. Ladd
Peter Ladd was worth his weight in gold. He was kind, loyal, honest and had an innocence that was pure. My husband and Lindsey's father was the best man we have ever known. It was an honor to share his life and be a part of the joy that he created around himself.
Peter was survived by me, Eve, his wife who adored him, his daughter Lindsey, who he always made feel safe and loved, and a wonderful family that have all been supportive and loved him with all their heart. He was also survived by many friends, including his band mates, coworkers, clients and friends from his baseball career. He was an accomplished athlete, but more importantly, he was a true friend to all.
Now that he is gone, there will always be a vacancy in our lives, but the memories will always bring laughter, tears and hope in our hearts.
I thank you Peter for being a person of such great value and for giving all of us a part of you. Our lives are better because of you.
Memories and condolences may be shared on his tribute wall.

I just learned of Pete`s death last night during the Brewers game on TV. I had lost my Mother shortly before that, and did not know of his passing. I will always remember going to Brewers games in the 1980`s and seeing the big man come in for relief. And if it wasn`t for Pete, my beloved Brewers would have never been in the World Series! I will always have a special place for Pete because of that. God bless you both Eve and Lindsey, and all of Pete`s friends and fans!

I went to Sabino HS in Tucson AZ. Pete was my guidance counselor and role model as I loved baseball. He was always kind and down to earth and had time for me. Rest in peace Pete!

I met Pete while I was working as a deputy at, the Cumberland County Jail in 1978... He was a bright light immedielty in a dark place. I later moved to California and was living in Los Angeles when Pete was in the Play-Offs against the Angels. I picked him up at the Hotel and he stayed at my house where my wife made his favorite Tacos... I attended both games in Anaheim and was just so excited to see Pete make it to the World Series. All in All.. I never met a more genuinely kind and caring man in my life... He was an absolute blessing in my life. My heart aches to see he is gone to the other side. My prayers, that God's blessings give his beautiful family comfort through this difficult time. Peter , you were just a gift to all who knew you.

Eve, I am so very sorry to learn of Pete's passing. We were high school teammates and last saw Pete when we all got together in Georgia for a 40 year reunion 9 years ago. We had hoped to see Pete again next year to celebrate 50 years since our high school state championship. We last talked in July last year after Ole Miss won the college world series. Pete has always meant a lot to me; as a high school sophomore pitcher on the varsity team, Pete was my mentor. When we were preparing for game 2 of the state championship series, Pete and I spent time with Pete's father, in the locker room away from the field, and they just kept me calm and got me prepared to go out and remain focused. Pete pitched a one-hitter to win game one the day before and I was able to followup with a one-hitter to win game two. Please know that there are numerous old friends from Henderson High School that are keeping you and Lindsey in their thoughts and prayers. May God bless you and your family. Pete will be and is greatly missed.

I knew Pete from our annual spring training trips. He came down with our group to share baseball stories and even play guitar on occasion. He became a friend and I always looked forward to seeing him. A kinder man I have never met. I will miss him. He´s knock, knock, knocken on heavens door.

Youth baseball teammate of mine. We played together at Lincoln Jr. High School in Portland. I recall a home run he hit against Lyman Moore Jr. High that must have traveled more than 400 feet. It left the field, soared over tennis courts and landed somewhere in the woods behind everything. He was 14. We called him Big Foot even then, I think coach Brian Gordon started that. Pete was a big kid and a really nice kid who was soft spoken back then and quick to smile. Then he moved away, I believe he headed down south to play high school ball. Seems, according to the accounts of those who knew him best, he retained that niceness throughout his life. What better thing can be said about anyone? To his wife, daughter, family and friends so sorry for your loss.

Eve , yours words are beautiful and they certainly resonate with me. Unfortunately, I haven´t seen Peter very often through the last many years. But I always enjoyed when I did. Big man, bigger heart. A demeanor that exhibited contentment. A Smile not just warm, but calming, reassuring.
Grateful for the intersection that our lives shared.
Rest in peace Peter
Blessings to you Eve, and Lindsey.

A true gentleman and incredible human being. I had the opportunity to meet and get to know Pete over the past 20 or so years at the Brewers Fantasy Camp and a private event or two. The world is indeed a sadder place because of his passing.

Pete was my roommate in Bristol. Red Sox AA in 1979 and also winter Haven 1978. Introduced me to John Prine! He ate at McDonalds every day of 1979 season until he got traded trying to fill up the Monopoly stamp game. I always wondered if he ever did ! Always made me smile! Saw him at a charity golf event about 10 years ago in Maine. We went into all out teammate routines including a special handshake we shared. Devastated to hear this news. My deepest condolences. A great guy and special teammate!

What can I say about Pete that hasn't been said..when Pete came in your life he left the same mark with everyone. He was a kind loving man with a warm smile that would let you know it was all good. I worked with Pete at Hancock and played in his band with him, what a pleasure it was. He introduced me to Porcupine Tree, a great rock band that I still listen to and of course we were both fans of Frank Zappa!. His talent in sports was amazing but his talent in writing music and playing guitar was as "Smooth as a fresh jar of Skippy" Rest in peace Brother and thank you for the music.

Pete´s appetite! I will always remember lunch´s in the yarmouth store with Pete, I can still see the Tub-o-ghetti he would bring in for lunch. And the one time we split a Romeo´s 3lb burger and of course he asked "can we get an order of fries with that?". Pete had such a fun sense of humor and was truly a great person to be around!
