Born July 31, 1942, in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, England, Pete passed away peacefully on January 1, the Solemnity of Mary, surrounded by his loving family, who were deeply supported and comforted by the wonderful and compassionate staff of the Welsh Home. He was the beloved son of the late Anne (Green) and Thomas Lally.
Pete met Margaret McGowan (Ballycroy, Co. Mayo) at an Irish dance in Chicago, beginning a lifelong journey of love, faith, and family-one that was brightened every day by Margaret's grace, humor, and unwavering support. They were married in Grimsby and began their family there before emigrating to Cleveland, where they were welcomed and supported by family and the broader Irish-American community.
Pete's life was always rooted in family and sustained by his tireless labor as a union pipefitter, as well as his charity through the Knights of Columbus and Eucharistic Ministry. Friends will remember his humor, his faith, and his devotion to the Church, but above all, he will be remembered for his kindness. He was always ready with a smile, a quick joke, or a bottle of holy water for an impromptu blessing. His family will forever be indebted to his selflessness, courage, and quiet strength.
He will be dearly missed, but he will forever remain in our hearts and be celebrated in the legacy he has left us. In the words of his beloved Padre Pio: "Pray, hope, and don't worry." May we honor Pete by living with the same faith, kindness, and courage that he shared with all of us.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers John and Kevin, and his sister Kathleen. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Margaret; his sister Mary; his children Sean (Lynn), Maureen, Tom (Erin), Kate O'Leary (Dan), and Joe (Patsy); and his adoring grandchildren Jack, Matthew, Megan, Madeline, Joe, Colleen, Kevin, Declan, Shane, Ryan, Colin, Rose, and Jane.
Friends may call on Tuesday, January 6, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at McGorray-Hanna Funeral Home, 25620 Center Ridge Rd., Westlake, Ohio 44145. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 7, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Bernadette Church, 2300 Clague Rd., Westlake, Ohio 44145. The Funeral Mass will be live-streamed. Interment will follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Malachi House, Westside Catholic Center and the Welsh Home.
