Peter James Legere

It is with great sadness that the family of Peter James Legere announces his passing on Friday, January 5, at the age of 78.
P.J. grew up in Arlington, Massachusetts, and attended Matignon High School where he met the love of his life, Geraldine. After graduating from St. Michael's College in Vermont, Pete and Gerry headed to the Midwest where he earned a doctorate degree from St. Louis University.
Dr. Legere continued his love of learning as part of the English Department at St. Louis Community College – Meramec where he was known for his booming voice, infectious laugh and steadfast commitment to his students. After eight years in higher education, Dr. Legere took his talents to the transportation industry, serving as director of quality and training at Roadway Express in Akron and then Liquid Transport Corporation in Indianapolis.
For almost 30 years, Pete and Gerry were year-round residents of Kelleys Island, Ohio. Pete was a past president of the Kelleys Island Landowners Association (KILA) and the Kelleys Island Schoolboard where he proudly led the development of the Kelleys Island School Field Station. He also served as a volunteer of the Kelleys Island Library and was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.
Pete had a passion for gardening, basketball, creative handy work, the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics and, of course, his family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gerry; daughters Amy (Anthony) DiFilippo, Jennifer (Todd) Snider and Phoebe Legere; grandchildren Gabriel and Pierce DiFilippo and Cameron, Griffin and Addison Snider; and many wonderful friends spanning from Missouri to New England. Pete was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Rita Legere, brother Thomas Legere and sister Ann Connolly, as well as, most recently, his beloved dog Emma.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Pete's life on February 3, 1-4 p.m., at Drackett Hall, Lakeside (316 E Sixth St, Lakeside, OH 43440).
The family would also like to express their gratitude for all the support and condolences offered during this difficult time. Whether you remember him as Pete, P.J. or Dr. Legere, this incredible man will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him.
