Peter Joseph Lemieux Peter Joseph Lemieux, age 56, of
Port Orange, Florida, passed away suddenly on November 2, 2025. He was the beloved son of Joseph H. Lemieux, who preceded him in death, and Virginia M. Lemieux of Port Orange. Peter is survived by his loving sister, Martha R. Lemieux, and her husband, David H. Jones of Athol, MA. His memory will forever be held close by his devoted nephew, Zachary J. Rapoza of Worcester, MA, and his niece, Eva C. Rapoza of Athol, MA. His memory will also be cherished by many friends in the Upper Valley of Lebanon, NH, and by members of "Gift Called Life," where he worked tirelessly on his own sobriety while guiding others toward hope and healing.
Born in Boston and raised in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, Peter graduated from Chelmsford High School in 1987. A proud U.S. Army veteran, Peter first served with the XVIII Airborne Corps Long Range Surveillance Company at Fort Bragg, NC, as part of the 82nd Airborne Division-renowned for its rapid-deployment capability and airborne operations. He later deployed during Operation Desert Storm as a Specialist assigned to the 533rd Military Intelligence Battalion, 3rd Armored Division. His service earned him the Southwest Asia Service Medal with three bronze service stars, recognizing his participation in multiple campaigns and his dedication to duty. Peter carried his service with quiet pride, living by the values of honor and sacrifice long after his time in uniform.
After his military service, Peter spent more than a decade as a Corrections Officer in Vermont, where he went beyond his duties to support and guide those in his care. He found meaning in leading group sessions and counseling inmates, offering understanding and encouragement to individuals striving to change their lives. Peter made his home in Claremont, and later, Lebanon, New Hampshire before relocating to
Port Orange, Florida in 2024.
Peter was keenly intelligent and witty, with a devilish smile that carried a spark of mischief; a quiet invitation to share in the joke only he seemed to know. He was an avid reader and held a deep appreciation for medieval history and the ancient traditions of symbolism, ceremony, and mysticism-studying the art and writings of early cultures as reflections of humanity's enduring search for meaning and understanding. His perseverance and love of learning led him to achieve a master's degree in psychology with a concentration in mental health counseling from Southern New Hampshire University in 2023-a testament to his lifelong commitment to understanding others and helping those in need.
Peter's compassion and unwavering sense of duty touched many lives. Whether through his military service, his years in corrections, or his dedication to mental health counseling, he had a gift for sympathizing and guiding others through their most difficult moments-a soul gone too soon, but forever remembered with love and appreciation. Godspeed, Pete.
