Peter Martino Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals on Feb. 24, 2026.
Peter Martino, a cherished family man, and master craftsman, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on March 12, 1937, in Newark, New Jersey, to the late Peter and Lena (Cicora) Martino, he grew up in the Ivy Hill section of Newark, a place that would shape the early years of his life. Peter's journey was one marked by love, dedication, and a remarkable ability to touch the lives of those around him.

After marrying his sweetheart, Anna, Peter laid down roots in Bloomfield where they joyfully raised their family. Their love story was one for the ages, spanning 68 years until Anna's passing just last year. Peter's legacy continues through his daughter, Anna Maria Martino, and his three sons and daughters-in-law: Peter, Jr. and his wife Karen, Paul and Debby Martino, and Sal and Maureen Martino. His four grandsons Peter, Max, Matt, and Sam, will carry forward his memory with pride.

Pete's education at the Essex County Boys Vocational School in Newark laid the foundation for his illustrious career as a master furniture refinisher. His skilled hands and keen eye for detail were his trademarks throughout his tenure at Metropolitan Furniture in Newark and his 30 years of dedicated service at Bamberger's/Macy's. His colleagues respected him greatly, a testament to which was his unanimous election as Shop Steward of his Furniture and Woodworkers Union.

Beyond his professional life, Pete was an avid sports fan. He found solace and joy in the simple pleasure of watching sports, documentaries, or game shows on television, especially after a long week at work. His presence at his children's sporting events was a constant, and his knack for remembering song lyrics was nothing short of remarkable. Peter's kind nature and handy skills made him a beloved figure in his community.

Pete was predeceased by his two brothers, Dominick and Michael Martino, who, along with his parents and wife, welcomed him into eternal rest. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will live on through the countless memories he created with his loved ones.

Pete Martino's life was a testament to the values of family, hard work, and the simple joys of life. His kind demeanor and handyman skills were a source of comfort and reliability to all. As we bid farewell to Pete, we celebrate a life well-lived, a legacy of love, and the indelible mark he left on the world. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered with warmth and affection.

Please join the family as they celebrate Pete's life at a 10 am Memorial Mass on Saturday, February 28th at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 339 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove, NJ 07009
