He was born at Fort Belvoir in Virginia on June 6, 1959, to the late Virginia and Morgan "Joyce" Murphy.
Beloved husband of Kimberly (Winslow) for 42 years, and loving father of Erin (Danny) Strickland, Daniel (Stephanie) Murphy, and Robert Murphy; cherished grandfather of Kiara, Arianna, Maggie, Molly, and June. Dear brother of Stephen (Janice) and Morgan Daniel (Barbara) Murphy. Pete was preceded in death by his brothers Mark (Mary Ann), Michael (Patricia), and sister Susan (David) Basler. Fond brother-in-law of Bonnie (Ron) Conrad, Sharon Winslow, Cindy (Rick) Patrinellis, Dale (Bonnie) Koebcke, Lavonne (Jay) Allord, the late Pam (Thomas) Barr, and the late Darlene (Tim) Pryszcz. Special uncle to thirty-four nieces and nephews; proud cousin to many Murphys and O'Connells. Loyal friend.
Following graduation from DePaul University with a degree in business, Pete enjoyed a successful international business career at AkzoNobel. He retired as a Senior Vice President of Human Resources in 2016. Since retirement, his focus has been on family, writing, travel, and coaching, while fighting multiple cancers. His last acts of generosity were participating in human drug trials and donating his body to science.

I joined AKZO in 2001. Pete was in a similar position and he took me under his wing and eased my on-boarding. He was a genuinely nice person who would go out of his way to address your needs. He would invariably take the initiative to organize a meeting-to take charge. He truly deserved the success that he had at AN!
I don´t know that I´ve ever known someone who was as proud of his family. Being a grandpa was probably the best title he ever had! Kim, I don´t know how you felt, but he seemed to have a good balance about work an family (at least in attitude).
We would talk periodically; had lunch together a year ago, and were going to get together with our wives for dinner. It never happened...but now wished I´d made more of an effort. I wished I had tried to reach out to him more the last year of his life.
My life was enriched with Peter Murphy in it!
