Peter Henry Nutley, 92, of Rockford, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024.
Peter was born in Cicero, IL on November 3, 1931, the son of Lawrence and Catherine (Vanik) Nutley. He attended St. Phillips Boys High School, in Chicago, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December of 1948 and served till March of 1952. Peter returned to Chicago and held various jobs enlisting in the U.S. Army in December of 1952 and served till March of 1956. He married Maureen L. Reilly on May 1, 1965, in Chicago.
Peter took a position with Philco and moved to Texas until returning to Chicago to enroll in the University of Illinois and pursue a Baccalaureate Degree in Electronical Engineering, which he completed in June of 1962. He then took a position with Motorola where he continued his career till his retirement at 65 years of age. Peter worked part time at The Antique Mall in Woodstock till the age of 75.
He was a longtime member of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Loves Park where he served as Eucharistic Minister and assisted with serving Communion at Mass and took Communion to parishioners in nursing homes. Peter was also active in the Cursillo Retreat Program and sometimes helped with breakfast or lunches at Carpenters Place.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Maureen Nutley; children, Lawrence Nutley, Thomas (Anne) Nutley, Peter (Martine) Nutley, Martin (Eileen) Nutley, and Caroline Nutley; grandchildren, Samantha, Bridget, Thomas, Alena, Cooper, Archer, Charles, and Therese; great-grandchildren, Carrick, Azariah, and Aslan; siblings, Lawrence Nutley, Edward Nutley, Catherine (James) Vallely, Margaret Paunovic, sister-in-law, Mary Nutley and brothers-in-law, James Laughlin and Robert Labarre; numerous nieces, nephews, and loved ones. Peter is predeceased by his parents; siblings, Anthony, James, Jack (Joyce), Patricia (Bill), Charles (Diane), Thomas, Eileen, Nancy (Richard), Gerald (Marlene), Rosemary, and Arthur; sister-in-law, Sarah and brother-in-law, Hans.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. Rockford, IL 61103. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, May 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave. Loves Park, IL 61111. A private burial will be in Irving Park Cemetery, Chicago, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Peter’s name to Carpenter's Place or Rock House Kids, both of Rockford.
