Peter G. O’Connor, 65, of Rutland, Massachusetts, passed away suddenly and peacefully with his wife and daughter by his side on July 2, 2025, at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Peter was born in Worcester to the late Paul and Margaret (Anderson) O’Connor and graduated from Doherty Memorial High School in 1978.
Peter was a retired letter carrier for the US Postal Service in Worcester.
Peter was born with the gift of gab. He was a bottomless well of humorous stories, pranks and witticisms. He also had an uncanny ability to fix just about anything. He found joy and peace in nature - hunting, fishing, and winter camping in his younger days – gardening, exploring Ogunquit Beach and camping in Maine in later years. His daughter fondly remembers their daddy-daughter days and overnight trips, listening to stories from his youth and many words of advice. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Peter is survived by his wife of 36 years, Christine Maruk, and his daughter, Delia, of Scarborough, Maine, as well as his brothers, Paul F. O’Connor (Barbara) of Sutton, Massachusetts and Ronald J. O’Connor (Anne) of North Dighton, Massachusetts. Peter also leaves behind cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street in Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson, MA. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to UMass Memorial Health, Office of Philanthropy, 365 Plantation Street, Biotech One – Suite 301, Worcester, MA 01605 or donate.umassmemorial.org. We are grateful for their outstanding care of Peter.
