Peri, beloved husband of the late Velma Peri (nee Rocchi); devoted father of Thomas Peri and his wife Eileen and the late Renee Peri Shank; loving grandfather of Andrew Peri, Katherine Jablonski and Lisa Beck; dear brother of Joseph Lawrence Peri; loving uncle of Yvonne Serio and Ronald Spedalere; loving great uncle of Richard Peltz-Steele; loving Great Grandfather to Maggie and Carly Jablonski.
Peter Luciano Peri - Timeline
Pete was born on Potomac Street in Baltimore City in 1924.
He attended Saint Ambrose Catholic School and Poly Technical High School graduating in 1943.
He was drafted in WWII when he graduated high school and served for 2 years in Europe.
- Pete arrived in France 2 weeks after D-Day in the 9th Army. He fought in battles, including the Battle of the Bulge, through Europe ending up in Germany at war's end.
- He was stationed for a time at liberated Concentration Camp Dachau.
- Pete was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Silver Star for his service in the war.
- He was promoted to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant at the time of his discharge.
When he returned home from the war he married Velma Rocchi and had two children Renee (1948) and Thomas (1953).
Pete started working for his father-in-law as a carpenter at Rocchi Construction then eventually headed Rocchi. Mr. Rocchi started the company with his sons-in-law Pete Peri & Fred Spedalere in 1946. The company became incorporated and Pete became president in 1956.
Pete, Velma, Renee, & Tom moved from Baltimore City and built a house in
Timonium, MD when the kids were 10 & 5 respectively in the late 1958.
Rocchi Construction was a successful business specializing in building gas stations, paving, and concrete work. It remains a successful company to this day under the management of Pete's son-in-law, Armand Shank.
Pete has lived in Timonium since 1958.
He and Velma were married over 50 years & Velma died in 2012.
He and Velma moved to Mercy Ridge the first year it was opened in the Liffey Building. His daughter Renee died in 1989. He has 3 grandchildren, one grandnephew, and 2 great granddaughters.
Pete has a brother Larry and several nieces and nephews.
Pete loved to golf regularly and belonged to Hunt Valley Country Club. Pete was on a duckpin bowling league for 40 years. He and his wife Velma were very active with Italian Clubs in the area that gave out college scholarships.
They were both very proud of their Italian Heritage and both of their families (The Peri's & the Rocchi's) came from same small town in Tuscany, Italy – Pitigliano.
July 2024, Pete moved into Assisted Living at Mercy Ridge St. Stephen's Green in July 2023. He continued to do well and was a favorite of the AL Caregivers. On February 8th he celebrated his 102nd birthday with the entire extended Peri Family. On February 16th he passed away peacefully at 6:42am.
