Peter "Pete" N. Broedel, 69, of Monticello, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Monticello Healthcare.
He was born on July 19, 1956 in Mount Carmel, Illinois to the late William and Virginia (Hack) Broedel . On August 28, 1993 he married the former Barbara "Barb" Schmitter at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Monticello and she survives.
He was a graduate of Mount Carmel High School in Mount Carmel, IL. He worked as HVAC repairman for Sagamore Heating and Cooling and American Diamond Heating and Cooling, both of Lafayette. Following his retirement from heating cooling and ventilation, he worked for Ace Hardware in Monticello and later for Delphi Community School Corporation in various capacities.
He enjoyed reading and watching Bears Football. He cherished his family and they cherished him. His granddaughter, Addy, was the apple of his eye; his goal was to never tell her no.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church.
In addition to his wife Barb of Monticello, he is survived by his children, Bobbi (Jason) Eddinger of Decatur, IL, Jeffrey (Carolyn) Broedel of Crown Point, and Gabrielle (Gary) Leonard of Reynolds; granddaughters, Bianca Broedel and Adalynn Leonard; siblings, Carol (Bill) Nutter of Watseka, IL, Patrick (Erin) Broedel and Michael Broedel both of Mount Carmel, IL.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; his son Peter Jacob "P.J. Broedel; and siblings, Kathy Session and William and Eric Broedel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday March 7, 2026 at 11am at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with Father Dan Duff the celebrant.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Monticello Veteran Honor Guard with envelopes available at the church or the funeral home.
