Peter had a larger-than-life personality that rallied people to him, but underneath the exterior was a tremendous heart that beat for everything polo related. He owned Peter F. Poor Ambulance Service in Newburyport before retiring to run Stage Hill Polo full-time. Peter was a beloved figure in the polo community, dedicating his life to the sport. His influence on polo was immense; he was a prominent player and announcer at Myopia Polo, a member of the US Polo Association for 55+ years, a circuit governor for the US Polo Association for over a decade, and started hundreds of players through his polo school. His legacy is one of stewardship, passion, and unwavering commitment to the sport and its equine partner.
Peter's greatest joy was his family. He was immensely proud of his daughters' achievements in polo and life. He and Sharon were married for over 43 years, having met when Peter volunteered through his ambulance business to help the sick and elderly attend church. He assisted Sharon's ill father in attending mass, and soon after, Peter and Sharon fell in love. Together, they raised a family and devoted much of their recent years to their grandchildren. Peter's impact on his family and the polo community will be felt for generations, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich. Service will be private at this time. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Peter's memory to The Myopia School Field Trust, 435 Bay Road, Hamilton, MA 01982 or The Museum of Polo, 9011 Lake Worth Road, Lake Worth, FL 33467. Once you´ve met Peter you can never forget him. My sympathies to his family and friends as there is a big void now that he has passed. Horses brought us together and I will certainly miss him.
