Peter David Power

Peter David "Pete" Power passed away peacefully on Monday, February 23, 2026, leaving a legacy of faith, service, humor, and devotion to family.

Pete attended St. Bernard College in Atlanta, where he was a member of the Judo team and volunteered with the Head Start Program, singing and playing guitar for children. Before his senior year he enlisted in the United States Army.

He trained as a Combat Engineer and Paratrooper, completed Officer Candidate School, and in 1969 was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Special Forces, 10th Special Forces Group at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. He participated in NATO training operations in Europe and later served overseas in Thailand as Executive Officer of a Special Forces training team. He proudly held the rank of Captain upon his honorable discharge.

After his military service, Pete returned to St. Bernard College and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. He pursued graduate studies at the University of Mississippi before beginning a long career with Sonat Drilling Company, later Transocean. His work took him around the world, including assignments in Southeast Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Florida, and the Gulf of Mexico, where he eventually served as a Dynamic Positioning Operator. He retired just shy of 40 years.

A cradle-to-grave Catholic, Pete quietly lived his faith. He and his wife volunteered in Houston and were active in their sons' schools. He loved Irish music and could sing the lyrics to most of the songs, practiced Taekwondo with his sons, and was an avid reader with a remarkable memory. Known for his quick wit and loyalty, he brought laughter and steady guidance to those around him.

Pete loved Avalon Hill military strategy board games and amassed a large collection of campaign sets over the years.

He is survived by his wife, Celeste Carmouche; his sons, Paul Power and Christopher "Kit" Power; and his sister, Camille Power Lydston and her husband Steve Lydston.

He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Lorenzo Power; his mother, Eilene Reynolds Power; his stepfather, Lorenzo Joseph Power; and his brothers, Lorenzo "Larry" E. Power and James "Jimmy" Reynolds Power.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 2, 2026 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 221 Aqua Drive, with Rev. Michael Caraway serving as Celebrant. Immediately following the mass, Pete will be laid to rest in Sallier Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home, 4321 Lake Street, from 11:00 AM until leaving in procession to the church for 2:00 PM Mass.
