Visitation for Peter C. Reiland, 83, of Crystal Lake, will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 PM, at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home 415 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich. A luncheon will follow to continue the sharing of memories and fellowship.
Peter “Pete” Reiland was born on April 1, 1942, in Evanston, Illinois, and passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, Illinois, surrounded by the love of his family, dear friends, and devoted care team.
Pete has joyfully reunited with the love of his life, Donna. He was preceded in death by his parents, Freda (Chambers) and Peter Reiland, and his sister, Alice. He leaves behind a legacy of love as the cherished father of Lynn (Mark) O’Meara, Margaret Reiland, and Debbie Ann Wintczak. He was a proud and beloved “Gaa” and grandfather to Brittani (Shane) Zellers, Genevieve, Kiernan, & Declan. A loving Uncle "Beep" to his nieces and nephews, and a caring brother-in-law to Deb Oswald and Gary (Emily) Oswald.
A graduate of Northwestern Military & Naval Academy, Pete continued his education at Drake University before proudly serving his country in the United States Army from 1967 to 1972. A decorated sharpshooter, he carried his deep respect for discipline, skill, and camaraderie throughout his life. After his service, Pete followed his passion for the outdoors and founded Gypsy Glen Farms Hunt Club, which later became Oakmount Game Club. The club was not only a reflection of his love for target shooting and hunting, but also a place where lifelong friendships were forged.
Some of Pete’s greatest joys were simple and meaningful: time spent with his family, daily conversations and weekly shoots and lunches with his closest friends, and the loyal companionship of his beloved pups—Mitsi, and the late Ollie, Gus, and Bubba.
Pete will be remembered as a kind and generous man with a warm presence, a ready laugh, and a sharp wit. He had a deep appreciation for history and politics, and he shared his knowledge and enthusiasm freely. His love, humor, and steady goodness will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
