Peter J. Riggi

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Peter J. Riggi, loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, in-law, and friend. Peter passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025 at the age of 72, surrounded by family.

Born on Staten Island, New York, he graduated from Port Richmond High School before receiving his undergraduate degrees in history and communications from the University of West Florida. He went on to earn his Masters in Education from the College of Staten Island. Peter shared his love of history as an educator for over 40 years in both parochial and New York City public schools. He was a lifelong New York Rangers fan who enjoyed traveling and reading, and spent his free time playing his treasured hockey card game.

Peter was a steadfast husband to Carol (nee Meyer) for 41 years, and an adoring father to his daughter, Gabrielle and her husband James. He is also survived by his mother, Catherine, his siblings, Catherine, John (Diane), Elena Ann, and Margaret (Phil); his in-laws, Edwin Sr. (Jane), Edwin Jr. (Corinne) and Eric (Patricia) as well as his many beloved nieces, nephews, great-niece and great-nephews. Peter was a unique man with a great sense of humor, deep sense of loyalty, and passion for learning. To know him was to be loved by him.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave, Metuchen, NJ with a prayer service on Friday, August 22, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Peter's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
