Peter B. Sargent, 75

Beloved Father, Combat Veteran, Outdoor Enthusiast

Peter B. Sargent, 75, passed away peacefully at home with his sons by his side, after a short but courageous battle with cancer on August 29, 2025.

A proud Army veteran, Peter served his country with honor in the Vietnam War where he was wounded in combat, losing his right leg just below the knee. In the army he received the Purple Heart Medal, the Bronze Star and a Medal of Commendation. He carried that strength and resilience throughout his life.

He was a devoted father to three sons, Peter Sargent II, Timothy Sargent (wife Charlene), Scott Sargent (significant other, Troy Warrell), whom he cherished deeply. He was a proud and loving grandpa to Kaylee Sargent.

Peter was welcomed home by his parents, Wellington H. Sargent and Virginia L. Sargent (Dutton), his sister Irene and half-sister Paula. Peter is survived by his sister Pam and four brothers, Boyd, Phil, Stan and Dale. Half-Brothers Wayne and Dwight and Half-Sisters Kelley, Andra and Shawna.

Known for his love of the outdoors, he found joy in every season-whether hiking forest trails, Mountain biking, fly fishing, kayaking Maine's waters, mountain climbing or skiing down snow-covered slopes. He was never happier than when he was in the great outdoors.

His own recovery led to a passion for helping others. This passion led him to the Veterans No Boundaries Program, where he found community and purpose. He began his journey with them at Sunday River's Maine Handicapped Skiing program as a student and went on to become an instructor for both skiing and snowboarding. He inspired many with his patience, kindness, warmth, and unwavering belief in what was possible.

He lived a humble life of quiet strength, service, and generosity, touching the lives of many.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the honor of knowing him.

Visiting Hours will be held on Thursday, September 4 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Wilson's Funeral Home in Gray, ME.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Friday, September 5 at Noon at

"Southern Maine Veteran's Cemetery",

It was such a privilege to know Pete. We met at the climbing gym and he was a climbing partner with my then 15 year old son. They climbed together often for a couple of years. Pete inspired my son and he became the youngest Maine Adaptive volunteer because of Pete. I am so sad to think of the world without Pete and I cherish the memories. We love you Pete.
