Peter Schaaf Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Best Funeral Services Peoria on Dec. 9, 2025.
In Loving Memory of Pete Schaaf, Sr. November 18, 1946 – December 1, 2025
Pete Schaaf, Sr., of Bethpage, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 1, 2025, after a brief illness. Born on November 18, 1946, to Ed (deceased) and Ruth Schaaf, Pete lived a life defined by service, family, and community.
After graduating high school, Pete attended Tampa University then proudly served his country as a United States Marine, carrying the values of honor and dedication with him throughout his life. Following his military service, he spent 23 years with the Nassau County Police Department, where he retired after a long and respected career.
Pete was a gifted softball player whose love for the game spanned an incredible 70 years. His shelves were lined with countless awards, each one a reminder of the passion, talent, and camaraderie he brought to the sport.
For 54 years, Pete shared a loving marriage with his wife, Janet. Together they built a beautiful life and, in retirement, settled in Peoria, AZ, where they spent the last 11 years surrounded by dear friends, their children, and grandchildren. Pete's happiest days were spent on the golf course, the softball fields, and among the familiar faces at his favorite local restaurants-places where he was always welcomed like family.
Pete is survived by his devoted wife Janet; his son Pete Jr, his daughter Corinne and her husband Eric; and his beloved grandsons Luke (22), Kyle (20), Trey (16), and Sam (13). He is also survived by his dear mother, Ruth, and his brother, Rob.
Pete will be remembered for his loyalty, humor, competitive spirit, and the enormous heart he shared with everyone fortunate enough to know him. He will be missed tremendously.
If you would like to donate, please do so to the Phoenix Childrens or Make a Wish in honor of grandson Trey Cuevas, a brain cancer survivor.
A celebration of the life will be held January 17, 2026 at 3pm at Corrine's house 29039 N 136th Lane, Peoria, AZ 85383. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Peter Edward Schaaf, please visit our floral store.
