Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dolan Funeral Homes and Cremation Services - East Milton Square on May 26, 2025.
Peter Baer Schneidman passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on May 24, 2025 after a brave and courageous battle with esophageal cancer.
Peter was a dedicated husband to his wife and the love of his life, Marie-Claire, a devoted father to his beloved dog Riley and cat Chester, a beloved brother of Jon (wife Michele) and Annie (husband Matt), an incredibly special uncle to Charlie, Jane, Declan, and Callum, and was lovingly embraced as a son by his mother-in-law Dominique. He also leaves behind countless friends and colleagues from all phases of his life, especially from Maine, Louisiana, Raquette Lake, Connecticut, and Boston.
Peter was predeceased by his beloved mother Cheryl Shapiro Schneidman and his father Leonard Schneidman. Born on June 12, 1974, in New York City, Peter grew up in Sherborn, Massachusetts. He graduated from Dover-Sherborn High School and went on to attend the University of Maine, where he was a proud member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He later earned his MBA from Louisiana State University, all while enjoying many LSU football games, crawfish boils, and gumbo during his time in the South.
Peter's heart always belonged to summer camp. He spent over 30 years at his beloved camp in Raquette Lake, New York - as a camper, counselor, and ultimately as Director of Operations for nearly two decades. It was his home away from home, a place where he found joy, purpose, and lifelong friendships.
In 2023, in a beautiful twist of fate in support of his wife's career, Peter and Marie-Claire moved back to Boston, where Peter fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a business owner. In July 2024, he purchased Rose's Automotive in Sherborn, Massachusetts, a place of deep personal meaning. Rose's was where Peter had his very first job as a shop boy in 1994, and where his father, Len, remained a loyal customer until his death.
Peter had an incredible passion for life and loved traveling the world with his wife, trips to Raquette Lake, spending time at his brother's farm in the Berkshires, enjoying a delicious meal (usually Chinese food), waterskiing, driving his Porsche and red Corvette, and making everyone around him laugh with his dry and typically grumpy sense of humor. The most important quality of Peter was his strength and determination – everything he did in life, he did wholeheartedly and accomplished every dream he ever had – to be the best husband, son, uncle, brother-in-law, business owner, and friend. He fought until his last breath, and while he was taken far too soon, he will never leave our hearts. Until we ride again PBS.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 2:00–3:00 PM EST at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE,
Milton, MA 02186. Following the service, we will gather to honor Peter in the way he would have wanted-through shared stories, laughter, Chinese food, and the warmth of those who loved him most.
To honor Peter's memory in the most meaningful way, the Peter Baer Schneidman Camp Fund has been established at Boston Community Pediatrics (BCP), which will give children the opportunity to have their own summer camp experiences and experience the same magic Pete enjoyed for many years-especially children who otherwise would not have access to this
opportunity. By helping send children to camp, you and the children who get to have their first summer camp experiences will carry Pete's spirit forward in the most special way.
In lieu of flowers, the family, per Peter's final wishes, we kindly ask you to carry Pete's spirit forward and support the Peter Baer Schneidman Camp Fund. This fund will make it possible to send over 100 kids, primarily from low-income backgrounds, to summer camp each year.
