Peter Sepko

1949 - 2022

Niantic - Peter Sepko, 73, died Sept. 8, 2022, with his beloved wife Jaye by his side. He was born May 22, 1949, in Southington, the son of the late Joseph and Teresa. Peter is predeceased by his son Colin who passed away in 2020.

Peter grew up in Southington, and graduated from Southington High School before moving on to obtain his bachelor's and master's degrees from Southern Connecticut State University. He worked as a physical education teacher in Southington schools for 36 years. In addition to teaching, he was a coach of several sports for many years including wrestling, track and field hockey. He was dedicated to his students and athletes and enjoyed helping them succeed on the mat, playing field, classroom and in the community. Peter "retired" from teaching in 2006, but continued coaching track and field in his new community of East Lyme, for many years. In addition, he worked for the East Lyme Parks Department as well as several other side jobs around New London county. If you drive through Crescent Beach, you will likely pass "Pete's Garden" where he worked tirelessly to create an area of beauty for residents and visitors.

Peter was married to his high school sweetheart Jaye, for 50 years, and enjoyed contributing to both the Southington, and East Lyme communities. In addition to Jaye, Peter is survived by his daughter Alissa Brown, her husband Dave, grandchildren Owen and Anna; and daughter-in-law Aimee Sepko. He is survived by his siblings: Christine, Madeline, Joseph, Martin; and predeceased by Jane.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Thomas L. Neilan & sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand Street, Niantic, followed by a 12:30 Celebration of Life at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer's Association or the Colin Sepko Memorial Scholarship Fund in his memory would be appreciated.
