Peter Sullivan Obituary

Peter D. Sullivan, Sr.
Peter Duncan Sullivan, Sr., age 87, of Fairfield, died on Thursday, February 5, 2026. He was the son of the late Paul A. Sullivan and Josephine D. Sullivan, and the husband of the late Joan M. Sullivan. He was born on October 10, 1938, in Washington, DC, and graduated from Gonzaga College High School and the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, with a degree in International Transportation.
Peter served in the U.S. Army and spent 20 months in Germany with the Seventh Mission Support Command as a part of "Operation Big Lift". Upon his return, he spent 3 years working for the U.S. Lines Company as a Market Analyst, before relocating to Fairfield to begin a 25-year career in banking. He retired as the Assistant Vice President and Senior Commercial Loan Officer at Mechanics & Farmers Savings Bank. Upon his retirement, he worked as a research assistant, custodian and grounds keeper at Fairfield University, where he was ever-present at events and well-known to students and staff.
In his retirement, Peter volunteered his time to many of his favorite places, such as the Gaelic American Club, Our Lady of the Assumption Church and Fairfield Woods Library. He belonged to various organizations to include the Knights of Columbus, the Ancient Order of Hibernians and American Legion Post 143. Peter's greatest joys were spending time with his friends and family, tending to his ever-expanding garden and listening to classical and Irish music.
Peter is survived by his children, Eileen Nanai (Chris) of Fairfield and Peter Sullivan, Jr. (Connie) of Sandy Hook; four grandchildren, Christopher and Michael Nanai, and Jack and Molly Sullivan. Peter is also survived by his brother, Paul Sullivan of Maryland; his sister, Margaret Barney of Montana; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Edith Mulholland and Sheila Gearhart; and nephews, Michael Barney and Thomas Mulholland.
