Peter A. Traini, 74, of Wallingford and formerly of Southington, passed away peacefully at MidState Medical Center on Friday, January 19, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Peter was born on July 22, 1949 in Foggia, Italy, one of seven children, to the late William and Barbara (Hendrickson) Traini.
Peter proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon his return home, he took a position with the Marriott Company which brought him to Southington in the early 80’s. Peter spent many years working in the restaurant industry for Roy Roger’s, D’Angelo’s and local diners. Most recently, he was a non-emergency driver for Hunter’s Ambulance in Meriden and a van driver at New Britain Transportation.
Peter will be remembered for his joyous personality, sense of humor and the ability to make others smile. He loved watching football and was a fan of both the Washington Redskins and New England Patriots. Ultimately, he was the biggest fan of his grandchildren, cheering them on at their sporting and school events. He also enjoyed family vacations to the Outer Banks, dinner at Chiapparelli’s in Little Italy, Baltimore and music from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, always knowledgeable of the title, artist and year the songs came out.
Peter is survived by two children, Elizabeth Kostenko of Southington and Philip Traini and his husband Jim Zulick of Norwalk, 4 granddaughters: Kaeley, Ryley, and Stephaney Kostenko and Bryana Goldman and one cherished great-grandson, Oliver. He is also survived by six siblings: Michael Traini of MD, Christopher Traini (Jackie) of FL, Susan Klauenberg (Jeff) of MD, David Traini (Christina) of MD, Keith Traini of PA and Monica “Moh” Traini of NC and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He also leaves behind his former wives and dear friends, Joan Traini (Becky Fede) of Southington and Betty Glenn of Wallingford.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s memory may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 45, 835 Hanover Rd, Meriden, CT 06451.
