We are profoundly saddened to announce the passing of our beloved husband, son, and brother, Steven Paul Procaccini, on January 31 2026 after a valiant but brief battle with metastatic pancreatic cancer. Steven was surrounded by those he loved and cherished at the time of his passing in his home.
Steven was born on March 2, 1963, in Providence, Rhode Island, to Vilma (Rosati) and the late Domenic (Tom) Procaccini. He was the third of four children; he adored and admired his parents and siblings and despite not always being close geographically, whenever they gathered it was if there was no time or distance between them. They loved each other unconditionally. Steven and his brothers and sister were instilled a committed and admirable work ethic in what whatever profession they chose. He cherished his parents for their legacy.
Steven resided in Connecticut since 1994. He married Juan Carlos Olivares on June 6, 2014, and they shared the joys of traveling together, attending the theater locally and in New York., as well as celebrating the Christmas holidays in New York City. They also shared their love with their pets: Bella, Ava, Tabby, Leo, and Sophie. Although a marriage cut too short they lived and loved like their parents displayed who were married greater than 50 plus years respectively.
Steven, a registered nurse with nearly three decades of experience, received his Bachelors of Science degree from Sacred Heart University and post baccalaureate certification in gerontology from St. Joseph's College. He was also a member of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) , and the Connecticut Nurses Association. He dedicated his final eighteen years to MB Healthcare, working at Amberwoods of Farmington and Hamden Healthcare in Connecticut. As the Director of Nursing, he cultivated strong relationships with his colleagues, residents, and their families, which he cherished most about his profession. Steven led his team with compassion, fairness, and effectiveness. Always committed to the Art of Nursing Steven strived to educate and be educated to enhance the knowledge and advancement of the nursing profession. Steven recently received the Nightingale Award of Excellence from Hamden Healthcare, recognizing his contributions and performance to the nursing department.
Steven is survived by his devoted husband Juan Carlos Olivares, who never left his side since his diagnosis; his loving mother, Vilma; his adoring and "baby" sister, Tami and her husband, Ricardo Catala; his older brothers and mentors, Thomas and John; along with John’s wife, Katherine (Kitty) McKay.
Also to cherish his memory his nieces and nephews: Cassandra and her husband Joshua Anderson, Steven's nephew and " best man,” Domenic Procaccini II and his husband Anthony Gerena, AmyJo Bartles and her husband Jason, Josh Procaccini, and Connor and Grace McKay. The passing of Steven also brings sorrow to his brother and sisters-in-law residing in Florida and Venezuela.
His absence will also be deeply felt by his numerous cousins, his St. Bartholomew's Grammar School classmates of 1977, as well as so many cherished friends he made in CT and his coworkers of Amberwoods of Farmington and Hamden Healthcare especially Nickeisha, Melissa, Maria, Jennifer, Vickie, Danny and Clair (to name a few) who became his work family. They will mourn the loss of his unique sense of humor and dedication to his work.
His funeral will be held from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston, Rhode Island, on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 10am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bartholomew’s Church, 305 Laurel Hill Ave., Providence, Rhode Island at 11:00a.m. VISITING HOURS will be Friday February 6th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday February 7th from 8:30 a.m to 10:00 am. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:00 a.m.
Interment will be held privately at the convenience of his family at the Cathedral of St. John the Devine, Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY.
The family of Steven would like to thank the staff of the Tisch Cancer Institute at Mt. Sinai Hospital, NY for their devoted exceptional care, and treatment. Also, we are thankful to the associate Executive Director of Masonic Homecare and Hospice , Steven's dear friend Johnie Burke and his staff for their compassionate and dedicated care.
