Peter Nicholas Trentacoste, loving husband, father and "Poppy" passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 19, 2025 at age 79. Peter was born on April 29, 1946 in Queens, NY to Mara and Nicholas Trentacoste. He was part of the first graduating class of Connetquot High School in Bohemia, NY in 1964, where all three of his children later attended. After graduating from Northeastern University in 1968 he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Squires, and began a career that spanned more than 3 decades at New York Telephone (now Verizon), retiring as an executive in 2002.
He came out of retirement in 2016 to work at Creative Health Services in Pottstown, PA, where his son is the CEO. Peter worked at Creative Health until his passing. He was also co-director, with his wife Barbara, of "Nonnie Poppy Camp" which ran every summer from 2004 to 2024 at their log cabin in the woods, serving all their grandchildren with unlimited pool time and ice cream.
Peter will be remembered for his quiet strength, his unwavering support for his family, his devotion to his many dogs over the years, and his appreciation for sharing a hearty meal with loved ones. He was a voracious reader, a darn good home cook ("Poppy Flay"), and an avid NY Giants fan. He looked forward to annual family traditions like ski trips to Vermont and visiting new cities with his son and sons-in-law to attend Giants away games.
Peter is survived by his wife of 57 years Barbara Squires Trentacoste; his children Andrew, Nicole and Beth and their partners Debbie Moulder, Phil Apostol, and Nicholas Whalen; 8 adoring grandchildren - Emma, Talia and Ash Trentacoste, Cecilia and Mara Apostol, Leo, Nico and Maeve Whalen; and 3 "step-grands," Ayla, Cora, and Sammie.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Peter's memory to the Montgomery County SPCA. https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/mcspca
