Peter Tummillo

Forever in our hearts. Peter, Poppy, The ROCK. Peter Francis Tummillo, age 91, passed peacefully on May 23, 2023, beloved husband of Glynda Tummillo who preceded him in death. Peter was born July 1, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Frank and Phyllis Tummillo. Peter was foremost a family man who lived life to the fullest. He was lovingly known as "Poppy" to his family and had an unwavering love and support for his children and grandchildren. He was known for attending years of lacrosse games, plays, school events and whatever the passions of his loved ones were.
In addition to being a family man, Peter was an avid golfer, poker player and lover of pasta. He developed many true friendships and support as a retiree on Callawassie Island. He was well known for his direct communication approach and love of giving people a hard time but had a heart of gold willing to help a friend in need at a moments notice. Dad was an amazing care giver for our mom who passed 8 years prior.
Poppy was a retired Lt. Colonel in the Marine Corps. He was employed by Grumman as a test pilot and finished his career as the Director of Flight Operations. In 1992, upon retirement, he moved down to Callawassie Island where he spent the remainder of his life. Poppy will be deeply missed but has left his family and friends a legacy of love and memories.
Peter is survived by his three sons Pete Tummillo, Mike Tummillo (Kelly), and Mark Tummillo (Kris) and his beloved grandchildren: Peter, Anthony, Nicholas, Michael, Olivia, Carly, Josie, Cassidy, and Bella. He also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, June 7th at Anderson funeral home 5–7:00 pm, a memorial mass will be held at 10:00 am June 8th at St. Peters Catholic Church on Lady's Island. Burial will follow in Beaufort National Cemetery at noon.
