Peter Shepard Young

Peter Shepard Young, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on April 17, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on June 1, 1935, in New York City to Walter Young and Miriam Berek, Peter lived a life rich with purpose, passion, and love.

After earning a Bachelor’s Degree, Peter dedicated himself to a remarkable career as an engineer, where he applied his skills and ingenuity to improve countless lives and projects around him. He proudly served in the Air Force, which fostered a deep sense of commitment and responsibility that characterized every aspect of his life.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Peter found joy in simple pleasures. He had an extraordinary talent for carving wooden birds, transforming blocks of wood into beautiful and lifelike representations of nature. Additionally, fishing was not merely a hobby for Peter but a cherished escape, offering moments of tranquility and reflection. These hobbies brought him immense joy and provided a canvas for his creativity and skill.

Peter is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Young, whose unwavering support and love were integral to his life. He leaves behind a constellation of family who will deeply miss his presence: daughters Ellen Young and Karen Young and her partner Ann Otzenberger; son Peter Young; daughter-in-law Amy Young; siblings Nancy Young and Barry Young; and grandchildren Aren Young, Cooper Young, and Makenna Young. Each of them carries forward the values he instilled with boundless love and pride.

Among his cherished friendships, Peter held a special place in his heart for Arnethia Wright and her brother Alphonse Wright, dear friends from his childhood who shared in the laughter and adventures of his youth.

While Peter’s physical presence may have departed, the love he fostered and the memories he created will continue to linger in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy is one of kindness, creativity, and unwavering dedication to family, and he will be missed more than words can express. As we reflect on a life well-lived, we celebrate the warmth, wisdom, and spirited nature that Peter embodied, knowing that his spirit will forever be etched in our lives.
