Peyton Chandler Theis has been set free from his pain and physical restrictions and is in Heaven dancing and singing with Jesus and his Grammy.
Peyton was gifted to Chris and Cheryl Theis on February 28, 2000. He was expected to be a healthy baby boy; however, that was not the case. He was born with multiple birth defects and spent the first several years of his life undergoing many surgeries, enduring numerous procedures and participating in multiple therapy sessions in an attempt to restore his health and grant him a better life.
Peyton was diagnosed with Pierre Robin Syndrome (tracheostomy). The hope of "outgrowing" his trach never happened. He had a colostomy and was deaf. Peyton had a feeding tube. In his last five years of life, Peyton endured much suffering caused by Trigeminal Neuralgia.
Peyton was a boy with a wonderful disposition. He was happy!!! He loved people!! AND POMPOMS!! He loved soaking in the very warm tub for as long as you would allow it or as long as he refused to get out. His foot would let you know when he needed the water warmed up. He loved applesauce, mashed potatoes, yogurt, and cheesecake!!
Peyton is survived by his parents who will miss his crooked smile and unconditional love, but who know their baby boy is in the arms of Jesus and is probably playing his first game of baseball with his Papo and Grandpa Frank. No doubt Grammy is his biggest fan in the stands!! If you close your eyes you can hear a voice we never heard on earth saying, "Watch me!! See how fast I can run and how high I can jump!?!"
Peyton is also survived by his big brother, Bryant and sister-in-law, Taylor; his big sister, Kamri; and little sister, Avalon. He was blessed with three precious nieces, Kaleiah, Taycen and Koehyn, who brought "activity" right to his favorite place, the living room floor.
Peyton's angel on earth, Vicki Honas, will miss him tremendously. She was Peyton's nurse for his 23 years of life. She was another mom. Vicki provided care to a child that was 100% dependent upon all of his basic needs being met. It was an emotionally, mentally and physically exhausting job. Vicki was known to do paperwork outside of the workday so that she could be truly present in his life.
Peyton's Grandma Mary Theis, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, other family and friends survive. He had other caretakers at various stages in his life with Dara Kirkbride being a constant the last 10 years.
Peyton was blessed with wonderful teachers and therapists throughout his lifetime. We do believe these kind and knowledgeable individuals made a difference in his quality of life. He received services from Arrowhead West beginning at seven weeks old. Peyton attended Medicine Lodge Public Schools from the day he turned three years old until he was almost 21 years old.
Peyton will be joining his Grandpa Frank, Frank Theis; Grammy, Linda Wheelock; and precious baby cousin, Amari Allen; and other loved ones in Heaven.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m, with family present from 5-7 p.m., at Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge, KS 67104. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, KS with Pastor Tom Walters officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, KS.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Peyton's Purpose Memorial, in hopes of blessing other families who are caring for special needs children, in care of the funeral home.
