Mr. Phan Van Phai, of Urbandale, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 77 on April 18, 2025.

Phai was born on April 1, 1953 (1949) in Go Cong Dong, Tien Giang, Vietnam, to parents Phan Van Chan and Tran Thi Hai.

He married Nguyen Thi Nhanh in 1972, and together they had eight children. In 2004, Phai left Vietnam for the United States with Nhanh and their three youngest children. They made their home in Des Moines, Iowa, where Phai worked at Mercy Hospital. Later, the family moved to Urbandale, Iowa, where Phai retired in his 60s.

After retiring, Phai spent much of his time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, growing vegetables, and going fishing whenever time permitted.

Although Phai was a man of few words, he was kind and caring-always thinking of others before himself.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Nguyen Thi Nhanh, and his children:

Phan Van Chang (Tram) – Vietnam

Phan Thi Tuyet Van (Hung) – Vietnam

Phan Thi Tuyet Mai (Tot) – Vietnam

Phan Thi Tuyet Lan – Vietnam

Phan Thi Thu Huong (Phuc) – Vietnam

Phan Van Thong – USA

Phan Nhu Hong (Thanh) – USA

Phan Thi Tuyet Hang (Trinh) – USA

Phai will be forever remembered and loved by his 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
