Phil Lancaster Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Phillip Mark "Phil" Lancaster, 74, of Tuscaloosa, passed away on November 24, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Phil spent his entire life in the community he cherished, building lifelong friendships and leaving a legacy of kindness, generosity, and joy.
Phil is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Meg Lancaster; his children, Mark Lancaster (Paige), Julie Lancaster Smith, and Clay Owens; his grandchildren, Phillip Lancaster, Preston Lancaster, Fletcher Smith, Isabelle Smith, and Mollie Corley (Justin); and his great-grandchildren, Archer and Henry Corley. He is also survived by his brothers, Terry Lancaster (Laura Beth), Reggie Lancaster (Rebecca), and Al Lancaster (Angie); his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Chip and Nancy Haring, Jim Haring, and Jim and Nancy Patrie; along with many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adrian and Jackie Lancaster; his niece, Christin Lancaster; and his nephew, Craig Lancaster.
Phil never met a stranger, and to know him was truly to love him. His gift of connection made him a natural father figure to many-he welcomed everyone with open arms, genuine interest, and a huge heart full of love. His happiest moments were spent with the love of his life, Meg, and surrounded by their family. You could often find Phil playing football in the front yard with his grandchildren on Queen City Avenue, or his toes in the sand at Paradise Too in Seagrove Beach playing volleyball, bocce ball and sailing. He also enjoyed the yearly golf trips with the guys.
He loved music and never let a good song pass without taking Meg's hand and dancing. His passion for the pool table is now carried on by his sons and grandsons, who grew up hearing legendary stories of Phil "cleaning house" against anyone brave enough to play him. His contagious smile and joyful laughter entered any room before he did, instantly lifting the spirits of everyone around him.
Phil adored his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He and Meg were their biggest fans-always present at every sporting event, recital, horse show, or milestone. His life was filled with love, fun, and pure joy, and he shared that joy freely with all who knew him.
A longstanding member of Christ Episcopal Church, Phil cherished attending the Connect Program and deeply valued the fellowship and community he found there.
A private graveside service will be held on Monday, December 1st, at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. A celebration of life will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, with a reception in Randall Hall.
The family will forever be grateful to his"Angels on Earth"caregivers, Anthony Porter and Charlie Prewitt, who showed him compassion and love throughout his long battle with Parkinson's.
Contributions in Phil's memory may be made to Hospice of West Alabama or to the Connect Program at Christ Episcopal Church.
Phil lived a life overflowing with love, joy, and connection. He touched countless lives, and he will be dearly missed by all.
