On the evening of December 13th, 2021; God called His heavenly angel home to his eternal slumber. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Phil Wendell DeLoatch, most affectionately known as "Loatch" and "Cockroach", was born on April 9, 1946 to the late William H. & Theolia C. DeLoatch in North Hampton County, North Carolina. He was the sixth born of eight children. Phil accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age.
Phil completed high school in the Philadelphia School system. He was drafted in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War. Phil returned home and became a bus driver with NJ Public Service Bus company. Later becoming NJ Transit, he was dedicated to his job and those that he served. Phil retired after 35 + years. He also held positions with King Coach, Carefree Bus Tours, Vanderhoof, DeCamp, White Bus Co. and many others to make sure his family was taken care of.
Anyone that knew Phil (Loatch) knew he was a father figure to all. He loved to help people in any way he could. When you sum up "THE MAN", he was a hard-working faithful friend, but most of all he cherished his family to the fullest. He had a love for betting on the horses (which he won all the time) as well as playing the lottery (scratch offs) from state to state. And you can't forget those good ole' Westerns!
All those who knew Loatch are very familiar with the loving and unselfish spirit that he possessed. His kind heart and immense character are two qualities that Loatch will be remembered most by. Loatch firmly believed in being blessed twice over and indeed he was. His humble presence would illuminate a room as well as his distinctive voice. A heart of gold is one of the best ways to describe the type of heart that he had and his willingness to always give to others.
Phil was preceded in death by two brothers Jerry T. DeLoatch and William H. DeLoatch, and three sisters Theolia A. Jones, Shirley Y. Gray, and Ernestine Bradshaw. He leaves to cherish in his memory: his wife, Cynthia Sampson-DeLoatch; seven kids, Phil DeLoatch Jr. (Contessa), Tynia Barrow (Reggie), Tykisha Sampson, Nathan Sampson, Phillip DeLoatch, Terrell Fleming and Troy DeLoatch; sixteen grandchildren, Al-Jamir, Amirah, Shakinah, Cory, Qadir, Sahid, Nasir, Samirah, Ni-eem, Jahid, Shakur, Phil, Iyanna, Al-Mujahid, Ky'mani, and Michael; two great-grands; one sister, Betty DeLoatch; and one brother, Donald D. DeLoatch (Ora); accompanying a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
